Experimental study on the effect of liquid properties on fluid behavior and liquid loading in vertical natural gas wells

M. Alsanea et al.

Summary: Liquid loading is a major issue in natural gas well production, and understanding the behavior of two-phase flow is crucial. However, there is a lack of experimental data on oil-air low liquid loading flow in vertical pipes. This study simulated a vertical gas well and investigated the effects of liquid properties on flow behavior. The results showed that changing the liquid phase from water to oil reduced pressure loss and liquid holdup. Different models were compared for predicting the onset of liquid loading, with the OLGA model performing the best.

An improved thermal model for predicting wellbore temperature distribution in deep-water gas well

Hui Liu et al.

Summary: This study presents an improved thermal model for predicting wellbore temperature in deep-water gas wells, overcoming the shortcomings of previous literature. The model includes innovations in natural convection heat transfer in the annulus and gas-liquid two-phase heat transfer in the tubing. The results show good agreement with field data, with a prediction error within 10%.

Experimental investigation on the distribution characteristics of droplets in annular flow with wide liquid viscosity range

Hui Liu et al.

Summary: The existence of droplets in annular flow has a significant impact on mass transfer and heat transfer between phases. Liquid viscosity can dominate droplet characteristics, yet its effects have not been sufficiently studied. This study experimentally investigates the distribution characteristics of droplets in a vertical annular flow with liquid viscosities ranging from 1 to 30 mPa.s. The results show that the diameter and momentum of droplets undergo different changes with increasing liquid viscosity. Furthermore, the radial evolution of droplets and the slip ratio of droplet velocity under different liquid viscosities are determined. The study also reveals that droplet deformation increases sharply with higher liquid viscosity, affecting the accuracy of mass and heat transfer calculations. The findings can assist in modeling multiphase flow under high-viscosity conditions.
