Optimal pricing strategy: How to sell to strategic consumers?

On a Deterministic Approximation of Inventory Systems with Sequential Service-Level Constraints

Summary: In this paper, the authors study two simplified inventory models with independent demands, positive lead times, and sequential probabilistic service-level constraints, finding that a natural order-up-to policy is asymptotically optimal for both the backorder and lost-sales systems in settings with high service-level requirements. They show that simple heuristic policies can be nearly optimal and that deterministic approximations can be used effectively for solving complex inventory problems in practice.

Heuristics for setting reorder levels in periodic review inventory systems with an aggregate service constraint

Summary: Inventory managers are responsible for balancing inventory holding costs and customer service in a periodic review multi-item inventory system. The definition of aggregate service can greatly affect system performance, so careful consideration is necessary. Four heuristics for determining reorder levels were derived and evaluated using simulation and data from a large international reseller, with the most accurate approximation performing best and generating significant savings compared to no service level differentiation.
