Flexible Ni/NiOx-Based Sensor for Human Breath Detection

Le Duc-Anh Ho et al.

Summary: We developed a flexible breath sensor based on Ni/NiOx using a laser digital patterning process. The sensor showed fast response/recovery times, excellent repeatability, and superior mechanical stability. The gas-sensing ability enhancement mechanism was investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. The response of the sensor to temperature alone and chemical components in the breathing gas could be separately evaluated.

Low-cost wearable device based D-shaped single mode fiber curvature sensor for vital signs monitoring

Jie Li et al.

Summary: A low-cost wearable pulse and respiratory monitoring system based on D-shaped single mode fiber curvature sensor is proposed. The system achieves real-time monitoring of pulse and respiratory signals by embedding D-shaped optical fiber structure in wristband and belt. The results show that pulse intensity increased and pulse frequency increased after exercise, consistent with medical theory.

Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) as a risk factor for secondary osteoporosis in children

Nur Syazwin Sies et al.

Summary: Repetitive hypoxia in obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) may increase the risk for secondary osteoporosis in children. Factors such as obesity and low physical activity levels could affect bone metabolism. Using quantitative ultrasound of the calcaneum, lower speed of sound values were found in children with OSAS, suggesting a potential risk for secondary osteoporosis. Further bone mineral density assessments are necessary to confirm osteoporosis diagnosis in these children.
