Overlooked effect of ordinary inorganic ions on polyaluminum-chloride coagulation treatment

Yize Chen et al.

Summary: The application of PACl as a coagulant in water treatment is popular worldwide due to its high charge neutralization capacity. The efficacy of PACl application is influenced by the characteristics of the raw water, specifically, the concentrations of inorganic ions. The performance of PACls depends on the compatibility of the raw water with the treatment, which can be evaluated by the rate of aluminum precipitation and floc formation. Sulfate ions have the greatest ability to hydrolyze and precipitate PACl, while bicarbonate ions have a lesser effect, indicating that the constituents of the PACl determine the most influential anions in the hydrolysis-precipitation process.

Engineering of a Hybrid g-C3N4/ZnO-W/Cox Heterojunction Photocatalyst for the Removal of Methylene Blue Dye

Misbah Malik et al.

Summary: Robust hybrid g-C3N4/ZnO-W/Co-x heterojunction composites were synthesized using simple and low-cost coprecipitation methods. Characterization techniques such as FTIR, XRD, FESEM, and EDX were used to investigate the fabricated catalyst. The as-synthesized g-C3N4/ZnO-W/Co-0.010 composite showed impressive photocatalytic performance, achieving 90% degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light within 90 minutes of irradiation. Furthermore, the synthesized composites exhibited good recyclability and mechanical stability over five cycles.

Utilization of a double-cross-linked amino-functionalized three-dimensional graphene networks as a monolithic adsorbent for methyl orange removal: Equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics and artificial neural network modeling

Ceren Karaman et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-performance monolithic adsorbent was developed for the adsorption of methyl orange (MO). The amino-functionalized three-dimensional graphene networks (3D-GNf), fabricated via hydrothermal self-assembly and double-crosslinking strategies, exhibited the desired reusability and high capacity. Both batch-adsorption studies and an artificial neural network (ANN) approach were employed to evaluate the potential use of 3D-GNf as an adsorbent for MO removal. The experimental results were consistent with the ANN-based data, indicating the applicability of the suggested ANN model for predicting cationic dye adsorption.

Recent advancement in the application of hybrid coagulants in coagulation-flocculation of wastewater: A review

Mohammed Shadi S. Abujazar et al.

Summary: This study highlights the recent advanced applications of hybrid coagulants in wastewater treatment. The performance of inorganic/inorganic hybrid coagulation demonstrated high removal efficiency compared to organic removal efficiency. The optimum operational conditions for inorganic/organic coagulants at different pH levels lowered the cost for chemicals used for pH adjustment in treating industrial wastewater.

Treatment of controlled discharge leachate by coagulation-flocculation: influence of operational conditions

Khaled Djeffal et al.

Summary: The study aimed to optimize the operational conditions of coagulation-flocculation process for leachate clarification, testing different coagulants and agitation methods. pH adjustment was crucial for treatment success, with a significant reduction in turbidity achieved by adjusting coagulant dosage, stirring speed, and time. Bacteriological analysis showed differences in microbial content depending on the coagulant used. Additionally, ultrasound waves improved leachate treatment efficiency compared to mechanical agitation, resulting in optimal clarification at specific temperatures and BOD5 levels for different coagulants.

Identifying the best coagulant for simultaneous water treatment objectives: Interactions of mononuclear and polynuclear aluminum species with different natural organic matter fractions

Mathieu Lapointe et al.

Summary: The study found that prehydrolyzed coagulants containing polymeric and/or cationic aluminum species are more effective in removing organic matter from water sources compared to conventional metal salt coagulants. In acidic conditions, ferric sulfate outperformed aluminum-based coagulants, while aluminum chlorohydrate was repeatedly noted as the best option in more alkaline conditions. Alum offered a good compromise between DOC and turbidity removals in neutral pH range.

Coagulation behaviors of aluminum salts towards humic acid: Detailed analysis of aluminum speciation and transformation

Yanli Kong et al.

Summary: The study investigated the efficiency and mechanism of hydrolyzed Al species in the coagulation of humic acid removal. Results showed the best coagulation effect on HA removal occurred at pH 6 for three aluminum coagulants, with decreasing effectiveness in the order: PACK > AlCl3 > PACl(2). Different hydrolyzed aluminum species had diverse effects on the coagulation process, impacting floc characteristics significantly.

Thermodynamic analysis of nucleation during pyrolysis process of aluminum chloride solution

Ai-Chun Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the nucleation thermodynamics of alumina prepared by pyrolysis of aluminum chloride solution as the core technology of the double-cycle method. It was found that the pyrolysis temperature of the reaction is around 600 degrees C, and the main reaction can be carried out within the studied temperature range. Additionally, the nucleation work and critical nucleation radius are sensitive to temperature and gas supersaturation.

Preparation of polyaluminum zirconium silicate coagulant and its performance in water treatment

Jiayan Zhuang et al.

Summary: The newly developed inorganic polymer coagulant, polyaluminum zirconium silicate sulfate (PAZS), showed excellent coagulation and sedimentation performance in the treatment of kaolin-humic acid synthetic water. Characterization studies revealed that PAZS is a highly polymerized complex with rough folded surfaces, capable of functioning effectively in acidic environments. This research demonstrates that PAZS has the potential to be a promising coagulant for efficient water treatment applications.
