Socio-Economic Characterisation of Resettled Smallholder Farmers in Rural Zimbabwe

Summary: This study examines the socio-economic characteristics of resettled small-holder farmers under the Fast Track Land Reform Programme in Zimbabwe, revealing blind spots in relation to new transformative social policy features. By utilizing a transformative social policy approach, the research highlights that the FTLRP produced mixed results, neither a resounding success nor a complete disaster. The study suggests the use of neutral and in-depth approaches for analysis, along with further research to improve the transformative agenda of the FTLRP nationwide.

Restoration of Land Acquired for Resettlement and the Fast-Track Land Reform Programme in Zimbabwe

Summary: This study used Ordinary Least Squares estimation technique to analyze time series data and found that maize and soyabean output per hectare in Zimbabwe decreased after the land reform. The results suggest that the land reform disrupted agricultural production and has not been restored to previous levels. The new government in Zimbabwe is interested in restoring land to former farm holders to sustain agricultural production.

Small Towns and Land Reform in Zimbabwe

Summary: Zimbabwe's land reform from 2000 brought radical changes to the agrarian structure of rural towns. The article examines the changes in population, housing, transport, and business activities in the towns of Mvurwi, Chatsworth, and Maphisa between 2000 and 2020. Despite the lack of government investment in infrastructure, the economies of these towns have grown significantly, with new agricultural relations generating economic activities and job opportunities.

Land leasing in a post-land reform context: insights from Zimbabwe

Summary: Despite the Zimbabwean State's claim that land leasing is illegal in fast track land reform areas, there is still a surge in informal land leasing. The study found that 90% of land leasing agreements are verbal, with conflicts arising such as disputes over plot boundaries and non-rent payments. The State's ambiguity in addressing this issue has driven land leasing underground, leading to the emergence of a new normal in land leasing practices outside legal confines.
