Racial disparities in uterine fibroids and endometriosis: a systematic review and application of social, structural, and political context

Jodie G. Katon et al.

Summary: Uterine fibroids and endometriosis are two common gynecologic conditions in reproductive-aged women. There are significant racial disparities, with higher prevalence of fibroids among Black women and similar or lower prevalence of endometriosis compared to White women. These disparities may be attributed to social, structural, and political factors, as Black women experience greater exposure to risk factors and worse clinical outcomes.

Assessing the Hepatic Safety of Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) in Reproductive-Aged Women

Hiba Siblini et al.

Summary: This is an abstract of preliminary results from a clinical study on the use of EGCG for treating unexplained infertility associated with uterine fibroids. The study found that a daily dose of 800 mg of EGCG alone or in combination with clomiphene citrate or letrozole (for 5 days) is well-tolerated and not associated with liver toxicity or folate deficiency in reproductive-aged women.

Green Tea and Benign Gynecologic Disorders: A New Trick for An Old Beverage?

Dana Hazimeh et al.

Summary: Green tea, rich in antioxidants and catechins, has potential therapeutic effects on female reproductive system disorders. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the major catechin in green tea, has been found to modulate cellular pathways important to disease pathogenesis. This review summarizes the beneficial effects of green tea in benign gynecological disorders, including alleviating symptom severity in uterine fibroids and endometriosis, reducing uterine contractility and improving dysmenorrhea and adenomyosis.

Targeting fibrotic signaling pathways by EGCG as a therapeutic strategy for uterine fibroids

Md Soriful Islam et al.

Summary: Fibrosis in uterine fibroids can be restricted by inhibiting fibrotic processes, and Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) has shown promise as a drug for uterine fibroids. This study investigates the effects and mechanisms of EGCG on fibroid cell fibrosis and finds that EGCG reduces the expression of fibrotic proteins and regulates key signaling pathways. Furthermore, EGCG exhibits greater anti-fibrotic effects compared to synthetic inhibitors.

Urinary phytoestrogens and the risk of uterine leiomyomata in US women

Fang Yang et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between urinary phytoestrogen metabolite mixture and uterine leiomyomata (UL). The findings suggest a positive association between the mixed metabolites of urinary phytoestrogens and UL, providing evidence for the relationship between urinary phytoestrogens and the risk of female UL.

Vitamin D and green tea extracts for the treatment of uterine fibroids in late reproductive life: a pilot, prospective, daily-diary based study

Giovanni Grandi et al.

Summary: The simultaneous administration of Vitamin D and Epigallocatechin gallate has shown significant reduction in uterine fibroid size, particularly in patients with intramural type. There was a decrease in menstrual flow length after treatment, but no other significant changes were observed. Patients reported high satisfaction with the treatment.

Vitamin D and uterine fibroid growth, incidence, and loss: a prospective ultrasound study

Quaker E. Harmon et al.

Summary: This study investigates the association between serum vitamin D and uterine fibroid growth, incidence, and loss. Higher levels of serum vitamin D are associated with reduced fibroid growth and incidence, but the findings are limited by the small number of participants with sufficient vitamin D levels. Interventional trials are needed to confirm the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation in fibroid treatment.

Immunohistochemical Expression of Vitamin D Receptor in Uterine Fibroids

Summary: Vitamin D deficiency is involved in the development of uterine fibroids. Supplementing with vitamin D can reduce the size of fibroids. Lower expression of VDR in fibroid tissue may indicate the potential for new fibroids.

Uterine Fibroids and Diet

Andrea Tinelli et al.

Summary: Uterine myomas are common benign tumors in female reproductive organs, with various epidemiological risk factors such as nutrition and dietary habits identified as potential contributors to their development. Studies have shown that low intake of fruits, vegetables, and vitamin D, as well as exposure to food pollutants, may increase the risk of myoma growth, highlighting the importance of further research to fully understand the impact of nutrition on myoma pathogenesis.

Summary: Research found that vitamin E intake is inadequate in Latin American women of reproductive age, while vitamin C intake is relatively sufficient. The main food sources of vitamin E are fats and oils, as well as vegetables, while vitamin C intake is mainly from fruit juices, fruits, and vegetables. Additionally, a third of Latin American women were found to have deficient intake of both vitamins, highlighting the need for further research in this area.
