Growth allometry and dental topography in Upper Triassic conodonts support trophic differentiation and molar-like element function

Valentin Kelz et al.

Summary: The drivers of the rapid morphological evolution of conodont elements are debated, with some arguing that the elements performed mechanical digestion based on positive allometric relationships. This study reevaluates the assumption that energy requirements and tooth area grew at different rates, finding support for a grasping-tooth hypothesis. It also suggests that conodont metabolic rates increased faster than mass, and food diversification may have been an important driver of the disparity in conodont elements.

Lower Jurassic conodonts from the Inuyama area of Japan: implications for conodont extinction

Yixing Du et al.

Summary: It is believed that conodonts went extinct at the end of the Triassic, but recent discoveries of younger conodont fossils suggest that their extinction happened at different times in different regions. Lower Jurassic conodont fossils have been found in Hungary and Japan. The discovery of conodonts Misikella posthernsteini above the first occurrence of the typical Jurassic radiolarian Pantanellium tanuense in Japan reaffirms the authenticity of Lower Jurassic conodonts. The survival of conodonts in the Inuyama area might be attributed to their distance from the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province and the subsequent hypoxia and ocean acidification.

New evidence for a long Rhaetian from a Panthalassan succession (Wrangell Mountains, Alaska) and regional differences in carbon cycle perturbations at the Triassic-Jurassic transition

A. H. Caruthers et al.

Summary: The study provides new evidence supporting a long duration of the Rhaetian and constraints the Triassic-Jurassic boundary to a 6-meter interval in the section based on diverse biostratigraphic and isotopic data from the Late Triassic-Early Jurassic sedimentary succession in southern Alaska. The record from Grotto Creek, in conjunction with previous data, shows consistent features on a global scale but also reveals local heterogeneities compared to some Tethyan records, raising questions about regional overprinting of the global signal and highlighting unresolved regional vs. global scale of some presumed carbon cycle perturbations.

Correlation between the Warepan/Otapirian and the Norian/Rhaetian stage boundary: implications of a global negative δ13Corg perturbation

Manuel Rigo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the Norian/Rhaetian boundary interval in the Late Triassic, focusing on the negative delta C-13(org) shift in the Kiritehere section of New Zealand. The shift, closely associated with the disappearance of standard-sized monotids, is considered a global phenomenon defining the base of the Rhaetian.

Paleoenvironmental interpretation of the Late Triassic Norian - Rhaetian boundary interval in the Whitehorse Trough (Stikine Terrane, northern Canadian Cordillera)

Summary: The Norian-Rhaetian boundary is an important event in Late Triassic paleontology, but many aspects of it remain mysterious. This study focuses on the Sinwa Formation in northwestern British Columbia to reconstruct the shallow marine paleoenvironment during this time.
