Ammonia synthesis using Co catalysts supported on MgO-Nd2O3 mixed oxide systems: Effect of support composition

Hubert Ronduda et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of mixed MgO-Nd2O3 oxide supports for the dispersion of Co metal for ammonia synthesis. Different ratios of Mg/Nd were evaluated, and it was found that the support composition significantly influenced the catalyst performance. The catalyst with a Mg/Nd molar ratio of 10 exhibited the highest number of basic sites and the best dispersion of Co particles, resulting in superior activity for ammonia synthesis.

A spin promotion effect in catalytic ammonia synthesis

Ang Cao et al.

Summary: This article provides an overview of recent experimental results on new promoters for ammonia synthesis and develops a model to explain their working principles. The authors identify a new promotion mechanism mediated by the coupling between adsorption and spin polarization on the surface atoms of magnetic catalysts, resulting in a lowering of activation energy.

Electronic structure regulation and polysulfide bonding of Co-doped (Ni, Fe)1+xS enable highly efficient and stable electrocatalytic overall water splitting

Yuan Huang et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of FeCoNiS as an electrocatalyst with high oxygen evolution activity and stability, attributed to the electronic structure regulation via Co doping and formation of polysulfides. A device assembled with FeCoNiS and MoNi4/MoO2 electrodes achieved high current density and stable operation at low potential.

Hydrogen production through renewable and non-renewable energy processes and their impact on climate change

Muhammad Amin et al.

Summary: Urbanization and population growth have significantly impacted global energy demands. The use of non-renewable fossil fuel-based energy infrastructure leads to air pollution, global warming, greenhouse gas emissions, acid rain, diminishing energy resources, and environmental degradation. This necessitates the exploration of alternative energy sources. Hydrogen, as an efficient energy carrier, has gained scientific attention as an alternative fuel to meet energy demands. This review focuses on hydrogen production from renewable sources (such as biomass, solar, wind, geothermal, and algae) and conventional non-renewable sources (including natural gas, coal, nuclear, and thermochemical processes). Additionally, the cost analysis for hydrogen production from each energy source is discussed. Finally, the environmental impact and implications of these hydrogen production processes are summarized.

On the effect of metal loading on the performance of Co catalysts supported on mixed MgO-La2O3 oxides for ammonia synthesis

Hubert Ronduda et al.

Summary: This study reports cobalt catalysts supported on magnesium-lanthanum mixed oxide with different Co loading amounts synthesized via a simple wet impregnation method. It has been found that there is a clear relationship between the ammonia synthesis rate and the Co loading amount, with the synthesis rate increasing on increasing cobalt loading and reaching a maximum at 40 wt% Co deposition. Furthermore, the surface-specific activity (TOF) remains almost unchanged regardless of the Co loading amount in the catalysts.
