Atomistic modeling and characterizaion of light sources based on small-amplitude short-period periodically bent crystals

Andrei Korol et al.

Summary: The feasibility of gamma-ray light sources based on the channeling phenomenon of ultrarelativistic electrons and positrons in periodically bent crystals with Small Amplitude and Short Period (SASP) is demonstrated using rigorous numerical modeling. The numerical data and analysis of 10 GeV electron and positron beams passing through diamond, silicon, and germanium crystals are presented, showing the enhancement of radiation in the GeV photon energy range. The parameters of radiation can be adjusted by varying the amplitude and period of bending.

Ultra-relativistic electron beams deflection by quasi-mosaic crystals

Gennady B. Sushko et al.

Summary: This paper explains the key effects of deflection of ultra-relativistic electron beams using oriented 'quasi-mosaic' Bent Crystals (qmBC). The specific geometry, orientation, size, and emittance of qmBC are shown to be essential for accurately describing experimental results on beam deflection. Through a detailed analysis of a recent experiment at the SLAC facility, the developed methodology enables understanding of the peculiarities in the deflected electron distributions and contributes to the realization of novel gamma-ray crystal-based light sources.

Crystal-based pair production for a lepton collider positron source

L. Bandiera et al.

Summary: This paper presents a hybrid crystal-based positron source for future lepton colliders. By using a thin axially oriented crystal, an increased number of photons are generated through channeling radiation, resulting in a higher production of positrons at the converter target. Experimental data and simulation results show that this scheme has advantages in terms of energy deposition and peak energy deposition density compared to conventional sources. This study provides a realistic and detailed design approach for the positron source in future lepton colliders.

MBN explorer atomistic simulations of 855 MeV electron propagation and radiation emission in oriented silicon bent crystal: theory versus experiment

V. V. Haurylavets et al.

Summary: The relativistic molecular dynamics method is used for computational modeling and numerical analysis of channelling phenomena in silicon crystal with 855 MeV electrons. The focus is on the transition from axial to planar channelling regimes during crystal rotation, as well as detailed analysis of electron deflection angles and emitted radiation spectra. Results are compared with experimental data from the Mainzer Microtron facility.

Investigation on radiation generated by sub-GeV electrons in ultrashort silicon and germanium bent crystals

L. Bandiera et al.

Summary: The study reports on the measurement of gamma radiation spectra generated by 855 MeV electrons in bent silicon and germanium crystals at MAMI. It was found that intense gamma radiation can be produced through volume reflection with higher angular acceptance compared to channeling. The study also showed a higher intensity of radiation in the germanium crystal compared to silicon due to its higher atomic number, which is important for the development of X-ray and gamma radiation sources.

All-atom relativistic molecular dynamics simulations of channeling and radiation processes in oriented crystals

Andrei V. Korol et al.

Summary: This paper reviews recent achievements in numerical modeling of ultra-relativistic projectiles propagation and radiation emission, focusing on advanced computation methods beyond continuous potential and binary collision frameworks. It presents a comprehensive description of the multiscale all-atom relativistic molecular dynamics approach and showcases case studies related to ultra-relativistic projectiles channeling and photon emission in oriented crystals.
