Oxide spin-orbitronics: spin-charge interconversion and topological spin textures

Felix Trier et al.

Summary: Oxide materials exhibit a wide range of functional properties, where electron correlations and spin-orbit coupling play significant roles. Recent advances in oxide spin-orbitronics have led to the realization of exotic phenomena and new functionalities for spintronics applications. The future prospects for this field involve further exploration of spin-charge interconversion, topological spin textures, and the influence of ferroelectricity on spin-orbit-driven effects.

Experimental Evidence of t2g Electron-Gas Rashba Interaction Induced by Asymmetric Orbital Hybridization

G. J. Omar et al.

Summary: We have successfully controlled the Rashba spin-orbit interaction by tuning the asymmetric hybridization between Ti orbitals at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface. This was achieved by introducing a LaFeO3 layer, which altered the lattice polarization and trapped charge carriers, resulting in a large Rashba effect at the interface without external bias. Our findings, verified through experimental and computational methods, open new avenues for controlling Rashba interaction and designing next-generation spin orbitronics.

Perspectives of spin-textured ferroelectrics

L. L. Tao et al.

Summary: Spin-orbit coupling in solids plays a crucial role in linking the spin degree of freedom to the orbital motion of electrons. Different crystal symmetries can result in various spin textures, offering a promising platform for exploring the coupling between spin, orbital, valley, and lattice degrees of freedom in solids.

Magnetic Skyrmion Materials

Yoshinori Tokura et al.

Summary: The concept of Skyrmion, originally proposed in particle physics, has found a fertile field for its applicability in magnetic skyrmions realized in helimagnetic materials. These magnetic topological defects show promising properties for future application in spintronics, with extraordinary metastability and low electric current excitation. The review also covers the emergence of other magnetic topological defects and their interplay with skyrmions.
