Study on the Profile Control and Oil Displacement Mechanism of a Polymer Nano-microsphere for Oilfield

Fumin Zhang et al.

Summary: The mechanism of migration/plugging and the main performance of polymer nano-microspheres (HQ) were studied using various experiments. Results showed that the swelling ratio of HQ in salt solution increased and then reached equilibrium with increasing swelling time. The particle size of the microspheres decreased with higher salinity and increased with temperature. Microscopic experiments revealed the migration and blocking mechanism of microspheres in the pore throat. The displacement experiment showed a migrated-plugged-breakthrough-replugged mechanism for HQ. The oil displacement experiment demonstrated excellent oil recovery and enhanced oil recovery of the studied nano-microspheres.

Adaptation study on nitrogen foam flooding in thick reservoirs with high water cut and high permeability

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper conducts an experimental study on nitrogen foam flooding in high-porosity and high-permeability reservoirs. The oil displacement characteristics, profile control, and water plugging mechanisms are analyzed. The migration and diffusion patterns of nitrogen foam are observed, and the effects of vertical foam production on residual oil after water flooding are analyzed. The results show that nitrogen foam flooding can effectively improve the recovery factor in the late-stage reservoir development of high-or ultrahigh-water-cut stages.

A Systematic Method to Investigate the EOR Mechanism of Nanospheres: Laboratory Experiments from Core to Micro Perspective

Haiyang Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, expansion and displacement experiments were conducted to explore the water absorption and salt tolerance of nanospheres. The results showed that high salinity inhibits the expansibility and agglomeration of nanospheres, and its plugging performance and formation damage should be comprehensively considered. At the microscale, NMR experiments revealed the flow characteristic of nanospheres, while microfluidic experiments demonstrated an increased oil recovery after the injection of nanospheres. These systematic investigations provide significant insights into preventing water intrusion and enhancing oil recovery.

Experimental Investigation of a Polymer-Enhanced N2 Foam Performance for Enhanced Oil Recovery

Qingyuan Chen et al.

Summary: Polymer-enhanced foam (AOS-DYG) flooding was adopted as an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology for the Bohai oilfield to improve foam stability. The addition of polymer increased the thickening ability, liquid film thickness, and gas-liquid interface adsorption layer strength, significantly improving foam stability. Core displacement test results confirmed the excellent mobility control ability of AOS-DYG foam in porous media.

Effect of pore-throat structure on air-foam flooding performance in a low-permeability reservoir

Guangfeng Liu et al.

Summary: The effect of pore-throat structure on air-foam displacement performance in a low-permeability reservoir was experimentally examined. Different pore-throat distributions were found to result in different recovery mechanisms and efficiencies in air-foam flooding, indicating the need for different timing in converting water injection to air-foam flooding. The characteristics of throat-distribution were found to significantly impact the oil washing and microscopic sweep efficiencies in air-foam displacement.
