Electrochemical behavior of oxazoline-based plasma polymers for biosensing applications

Alexandru Gheorghiu et al.

Summary: Plasma-polymerized polyoxazoline (POx) thin films can be used as a fast and solvent-free method for electrode functionalization. This study investigated the effects of current exposure, extended incubation, and repeated electrode rinses on the stability of polymethyloxazoline thin films. The films were found to become more diffusive after incubation and rinse steps, and changes in nanotopography were observed after exposure to current, suggesting a change in the film structure.

Cancer cell detection device for the diagnosis of bladder cancer from urine

Melanie MacGregor et al.

Summary: The non-invasive diagnostic platform presented in this study combines microfluidic technology with PDD principles and immunocapture technology to detect shed bladder cancer cells in patient urine, achieving highly specific capture rates. In a pilot study, it successfully differentiated bladder cancer patients from non-cancer controls, showing potential for post-treatment surveillance and cancer detection in suspected bladder cancer patients.

Plasma Deposited Polyoxazoline Thin Films for the Biofunctionalization of Electrochemical Sensors

Eva Alvarez de Eulate et al.

Summary: In this study, thin films deposited from the plasma phase of oxazoline precursors were investigated as an alternative approach for electrode functionalization, showing the advantage of being substrate independent and allowing spontaneous binding of biomolecules in physiological buffer. These films were further utilized to develop an immunosensor with a low detection limit for free epithelial cell adhesion molecule.

Systematic and collaborative approach to problem solving using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Neal Fairley et al.

Summary: The methodology presented in this work is a result of interactions between junior and senior XPS users within the CasaXPS framework, particularly through workshops organized by IMN. The discussions from these workshops have been instrumental in developing the XPS data processing concept and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in surface analysis problem-solving. This methodology has evolved over subsequent workshops and now represents the philosophy used in CasaXPS spectral data processing paradigm.

Engineering conductive protein films through nanoscale self-assembly and gold nanoparticles doping

Sara H. Mejias et al.

Summary: This research presents a novel approach to tune the charge transport properties of protein-based materials by utilizing electron-dense AuNPs. By combining controlled self-assembly of a protein building block with templating of AuNPs by the engineered building block, conductive solid films are generated. This bottom-up strategy allows for enhanced conductivity by controlling the structure of the films and the distribution of AuNPs within.
