An endophytic Streptomyces sp. DARP-7 isolated from coastal lichen and enhancement of its antibacterial metabolite production using response surface methodology

Mathews Lurth Raj David et al.

Summary: The actinomycete DARP-7 was isolated from a coastal foliose lichen and the culture medium components were optimized to enhance antibiotic production. Compound profiling confirmed the presence of polyene conjugates. The study suggests that coastal lichens could be a promising source for bioactive metabolites producing rare actinobacteria.

Isolation and identification of endophytic actinobacteria from Citrullus colocynthis (L.) Schrad and their antibacterial properties

Aram R. Ali et al.

Summary: Antibiotic resistance is a global threat to human health, and the discovery of new antibiotics from unexplored habitats is crucial. This study isolated endophytic actinobacteria (EA) from the Citrullus colocynthis plant and investigated their antibacterial properties. Six endophytic actinobacteria were isolated, and they were classified into two families based on morphological features and molecular identification. One of the isolated strains was proposed as a novel species/strain. Five strains showed antagonistic activity against pathogenic bacteria, indicating the potential of Citrullus colocynthis as an untapped source for the discovery of new antibiotics.

Anti-ESBL derivatives of marine endophytic Streptomyces xiamenensis GRG 5 (KY457709) against ESBL producing bacteria

Govindan Rajivgandhi et al.

Summary: The emerging threat of extended spectrum beta lactamase (ESBL) producing Gram negative bacteria is a major global concern. Marine Streptomyces xiamenensis GRG 5 has been found to possess excellent antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Compound DTBHAI extracted from this strain can damage the intracellular membrane and outer membrane morphology of ESBL producing bacteria, making it a potential treatment option for related infections.

Partially purified actinomycetes compounds enhance the intracellular damages in multi-drug resistant P. aeruginosa and K. pneumoniae

Shine Kadaikunnan et al.

Summary: Based on the excellent nutrient level, the study focused on isolating and testing the anti-bacterial activity of actinomycetes from marine mangrove soil samples. The results showed that the partially extracted crude compound had significant antibacterial effects against multi drug resistant bacteria. Confocal laser scanning electron microscope and scanning electron microscope were used to observe the intracellular and extracellular damages of the treated bacterial strains.
