Recovery of iron from iron tailings by suspension magnetization roasting with biomass-derived pyrolytic gas

Guoqiang Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, biomass pyrolysis gas was used as a reducing agent to suspension magnetize and roast iron tailings in order to recover iron. The mechanism of iron recovery by suspension magnetization roasting (SMR) under the action of biomass pyrolysis gas was explained through the investigation of process conditions, phase transformation, and microstructure evolution of iron tailings, pyrolysis gas production, and reaction regulations. The results showed that the optimized process conditions achieved a high iron recovery rate of 93.32% and an iron grade of 61.50% in the iron concentrate. The SMR temperature not only improved the heat and mass transfer effect but also generated more CO and H2 through the reverse reaction of methanation, increasing the saturation magnetisation of the unit sample. This method provides an efficient way to recover high-quality iron from refractory iron ores.

Mechanism study on pyrolysis interaction between cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin based on photoionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (PI-TOF-MS) analysis

Peixuan Xue et al.

Summary: Accurately revealing the interactions between biomass components is crucial for selectively preparing and exploiting pyrolysis products. Using an online photoionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (PI-TOF-MS), the study examines a simplified coupled cross-pyrolysis process to depict the real complicated pyrolysis reactions and elucidate the interaction mechanism. Results show that the interaction only affects product distribution and does not create new pyrolysis reaction pathways. The findings contribute to improving knowledge of biomass pyrolysis interaction and can be used as a reference for targeted biomass utilization and catalytic pyrolysis optimization strategies.

Gasification and structural behaviour of different carbon sources and resultant chars from rapid devolatilization for HIsarna alternative ironmaking process

Darbaz Khasraw et al.

Summary: Charcoal exhibits the fastest gasification reaction before and after rapid heat treatment, with Bana grass char showing higher reactivity compared to thermal coal in its raw form. However, both BGC and TC exhibit similar gasification behavior at 1500 degrees C. The reactivity index of rapidly devolatilized char is significantly reduced compared to their raw materials.

Co-liquefaction of mixed biomass feedstocks for bio-oil production: A critical review

Qingyin Li et al.

Summary: Liquefaction is an attractive technology for converting biomass into bio-oil without drying the feedstock, and is conducted at relatively low temperatures. Co-liquefaction of different biomass feedstocks can enhance the liquefaction degree and chemical properties of the resulting bio-oil. Understanding the interaction during co-liquefaction process is important for tuning the chemical species and yield of the bio-oil. Operational parameters and mixing ratios of different biomasses also play a significant role in the co-liquefaction behavior.

Experimental and mechanism research of the effects of alkali on the reduction reaction of hematite during roasting reduction reaction

Shuai Yuan et al.

Summary: This paper studied the roasting reduction reaction behavior of hematite and artificially mixed red mud in different alkaline environments. The results showed that the optimal reduction temperature and time of hematite in alkaline environment were 560℃ and 15 min respectively. The addition of NaOH hindered the phase transformation from Fe2O3 to Fe3O4, while the addition of CaO first enhanced and then depressed the phase transformation.

Bin Tian et al.

Summary: Both rice husk and poplar bark undergo three consecutive stages during pyrolysis, with peak temperatures shifting to higher values as the heating rate increases. Among oxygenated products, CO2 is the dominant species, while hydrocarbon gases contain significant amounts of CH4 and arenes. Rice husk produces more oxygenated products, while poplar bark generates higher levels of CH4, arenes, and C2+ aliphatics in pyrolytic products.
