An analysis method for the response of combined side-and-tip grouting pile

Shan-wei Liu et al.

Summary: Post-grouting technology is commonly used to enhance the ultimate bearing capacity and reduce the settlement of bored piles. A load transfer model considering the time-varying characteristics of slurry viscosity was established for the analysis of the combined side-and-tip grouting pile in layered soils. The reliability of the calculation method was validated through comparisons between measured and computed results of well-documented cases, and a parameter study was conducted to assess the influence of various factors on the load-settlement relationship of single piles with different grouting types.

Evaluating the effect of post-grouting on long bored pile based on ultra-weak fiber Bragg grating array

Xing Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel sensing cable and system based on ultra-weak FBG array for strain measurement of large-scale engineering structures. The good strain measurement performance of the sensing cable and system was confirmed through laboratory calibration and field tests. The UWFBG array and sensing system could realize distributed, high-precision, and real-time strain measurement with a spatial resolution of 1 m within 1.5 km, which has great potential in the monitoring of geo-environment and engineering structures.

Effects of soil unloading and grouting on the vertical bearing mechanism for compressive piles

Yue Wu et al.

Summary: The present study conducts a series of model cast-in-place piles tests to analyze the vertical bearing characteristics and the grout returned diffusion mechanism along the pile shaft of tip post-grouting piles with different grouting and pile shaft soil unloading conditions. The model test results show that the pile tip post-grouting technology can improve the weak difference in the bearing characteristics and axial force distribution of the pile foundation caused by pile shaft soil unloading. The grouting diffusion mechanism of the cement on the pile tip and pile shaft soil during the pile tip post-grouting process is revealed.

Cavity reverse expansion considering elastoplastic unloading and application in cast-in-situ bored piles

Chunfeng Zhao et al.

Summary: The construction process of a cast-in-situ bored pile is too complex to be described by a single process of cavity expansion theory. A unified semi-analytical solution is proposed for the reverse expansion of both cylindrical and spherical cavities in drained soil. The effects of unloading on cavity reverse expansion and the recovery of cavity radius are analyzed.

Numerical simulation of load tests on hollow-bar micropiles considering grouting method

Hamed Bayesteh et al.

Summary: In this study, numerical modeling was used to evaluate the design parameters and the effect of grouting method on hollow-bar micropiles. The results showed an increase in bond diameter and bond strength compared to current recommendations for hollow-bar micropiles. An equation to predict the bond diameter of hollow-bar micropiles was also developed.

Analysis of Shaft-Grouted Piles Using Load-Transfer Method

Van Qui Lai et al.

Summary: A new algorithm based on the load-transfer method is proposed in this study to determine the behavior of shaft-grouted piles. The proposed method shows good agreement with full-scale pile load test results and can be applied in the preliminary design of such piles, which is of great interest to practical engineers.

Consolidation Pressure Consequences on the Soil Structure of Artificial Structured Marine Clay: Macro and Micro Evaluation

Usama Khalid et al.

Summary: Consolidation pressure significantly affects the structure of marine clay, including void ratio, compression index, yield stress, and pore size distribution. With increasing consolidation pressure, the total pore volume decreases, and medium pores larger than 1 μm decrease, transforming into fine and micro pores between 1 μm and 0.01 μm in size.
