Acquired Factor XIII Deficiency in Patients with Multiple Trauma

Michael Hetz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of acquired FXIII deficiency after trauma and the time-course changes of important coagulation parameters in relation to FXIII activity. The effects of in vitro administration of FXIII on clot firmness and outcomes in patients with severe traumatic brain injury were also examined. The results showed that FXIII deficiency increased further during the early surgical care period after trauma and that in vitro administration of FXIII improved clot stabilizing effects.

Coagulopathy Underlying Rotational Thromboelastometry Derangements in Trauma Patients: A Prospective Observational Multicenter Study

Romein W. G. Dujardin et al.

Summary: The study finds that ROTEM abnormalities in trauma patients are associated with lower levels of coagulation factors, increased mortality, and depletion of fibrinogen and factor V. Increased fibrinolysis may also be present in the case of ROTEM abnormalities.

The impact of acquired coagulation factor XIII deficiency in traumatic bleeding and wound healing

Christian Kleber et al.

Summary: Factor XIII (FXIII) is a protein involved in blood clot stabilization and plays important roles in trauma, surgery, and wound healing. Low FXIII levels after surgery can lead to post-operative complications, but FXIII supplementation can reduce blood transfusions and improve wound healing. Identifying low FXIII levels in specific patient populations can help diagnose and guide the treatment of acquired FXIII deficiency.

Evidence-Based and Clinically Relevant Outcomes for Hemorrhage Control Trauma Trials

John B. Holcomb et al.

Summary: The study aims to develop consensus-based recommendations for primary clinical outcomes for pivotal trials in patients suffering from significant bleeding, including traumatic injury, intracranial hemorrhage, and other 6 categories. Standardized primary outcomes in clinical trials evaluating hemostatic products will facilitate research, interpretation, and translation into clinical practice.
