Topological Edge States and Bulk-edge Correspondence in Dimerized Toda Lattice

Motohiko Ezawa

Summary: This paper investigates the topological property of the Toda lattice model and its relationship with the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. The existence of topological edge states in the system is confirmed through the study of isolated zero-mode edge states. Numerical simulations show that the topological phase transition can be observed by observing the dynamics difference of voltage propagation.

Topological synchronization of coupled nonlinear oscillators

Kazuki Sone et al.

Summary: This article combines the synchronization phenomenon of coupled oscillators with the field of condensed matter physics, proposing a nonlinear topological phenomenon called topological synchronization. In this phenomenon, only the edge oscillators synchronize while the bulk oscillators exhibit chaotic dynamics. The article provides analysis and models to demonstrate the existence of this phenomenon and discovers the emergence of unconventional extra topological boundary modes at effective boundaries. Furthermore, the proposal shows promise for spatially controlling synchronization, such as on-demand pattern designing and defect detection.

Quench Dynamics and Bulk-Edge Correspondence in Nonlinear Mechanical Systems

Motohiko Ezawa

Summary: Topological physics in one-dimensional nonlinear systems is studied using a mechanical rotator model. The emergence of edge states in the topological phase for the nonlinear system indicates a potential bulk-edge correspondence.

Nonlinear second-order photonic topological insulators

Marco S. Kirsch et al.

Summary: Higher-order topological insulators represent a novel topological phase with boundary modes characterized by a unique co-dimension of at least two. Despite promising preliminary considerations, experimental research on these systems has been limited to linear evolution of topological states, with observation of the interplay between nonlinearity and dynamics of higher-order topological phases remaining elusive. However, experimental demonstration of nonlinear higher-order topological corner states and observation of soliton formation in such structures could pave the way for exploring topological properties of matter in the nonlinear regime and potentially lead to the development of compact devices harnessing the intriguing features of topology.

Topology in Nonlinear Mechanical Systems

Po-Wei Lo et al.

Summary: Many advancements have been made in the field of topological mechanics, particularly in studying topological invariants in linear theories. This Letter presents a generic prescription for defining topological indices for mechanical systems that include nonlinear effects. The prediction of a Z-valued quantity in terms of a topological index known as the Poincare-Hopf index in differential geometry is a key feature, allowing for the identification of topologically protected solitons. This work opens up new possibilities for finding novel topologically protected nonlinear zero modes in the future.

Active topolectrical circuits

Tejas Kotwal et al.

Summary: The transfer of topological concepts from quantum world to classical mechanical and electronic systems has opened new approaches to protected information transmission and wave guidance. By combining key ideas from topological circuits and active matter research, active topolectrical circuits that can self-excite protected global signal patterns have been developed. Through nonlinear ATCs, self-organized protected edge oscillations have been theoretically predicted and experimentally confirmed, providing a robust platform for developing high-dimensional autonomous electrical circuits with topologically protected functionalities.

Nonlinearity-induced transition in the nonlinear Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model and a nonlinear higher-order topological system

Motohiko Ezawa

Summary: The study focuses on the topological physics in nonlinear Schrodinger systems on lattices, investigating the phase diagram by employing quench dynamics. The system dynamics crucially depend on two parameters lambda and xi, controlling hoppings and nonlinearity, respectively. The phase diagram of the nonlinear SSH model in the (lambda, xi) plane is derived, showing four phases including topological, trivial, localization, and dimer phases.
