Understanding Conformational Changes in Human Serum Albumin and Its Interactions with Gold Nanorods: Do Flexible Regions Play a Role in Corona Formation?

Krishna Halder et al.

Summary: The importance of protein-nanoparticle (NP) conjugates in biomedical applications has grown exponentially in recent years. The formation of a protein corona on NPs with human serum albumin (HSA) has been extensively studied due to its abundant presence in blood serum and easy adsorption onto NP surfaces. Understanding the behavior of NPs in physiological media and the resulting changes in biological responses is crucial. This study analyzed the formation of HSA protein corona on gold nanorods (AuNRs) through various spectroscopic studies and investigated the effects of protein concentration on protein-NP interactions. By utilizing imaging techniques and spectroscopic analysis, the researchers identified structural changes and interactions between HSA and AuNRs, providing valuable insights for potential biological applications.

Sputtered crystalline TiO2 film drives improved surface properties of titanium-based biomedical implants

Heloisa Navarro Pantaroto et al.

Summary: Different crystalline phases of sputtered TiO2 films were tailored to investigate their properties on titanium-based implant material. The combination of anatase and rutile structures proved to enhance corrosion protection, protein adsorption, bioactivity, and non-cytotoxicity effects. M-TiO2 showed the highest polarization resistance and increased albumin adsorption, while HA morphology was dependent on the crystalline phase.

Adsorption and Conformation Behavior of Lysozyme on a Gold Surface Determined by QCM-D, MP-SPR, and FTIR

Paulina Komorek et al.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the adsorption of lysozyme at the water/gold surface at pH 7.5 in a wide range of concentrations. Various techniques showed changes in molecular orientation and hydration levels depending on the surface coverage. The increase in layer filling led to an increase in rigidity and determined the stability of the protein structure.
