Subacute Ruminal Acidosis as a Potential Factor that Induces Endometrium Injury in Sheep

Jianlin Zeng et al.

Summary: The demand for economic benefits has led to an increase in the proportion of high-concentrate (HC) feed in the ruminant diet, resulting in an increased incidence of subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA). During SARA, a high concentration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) translocated in the rumen induces a systemic inflammatory response. This study provides new evidence that SARA is a potential factor that induces systemic inflammation in ruminants.

A Network Pharmacology and Multi-Omics Combination Approach to Reveal the Effect of Strontium on Ca2+ Metabolism in Bovine Rumen Epithelial Cells

Panpan Tan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of strontium (Sr) on calcium (Ca) metabolism in bovine rumen epithelial cells. The results show that the IC50 of Sr-treated cells is 43.21 mmol/L, and Sr increases intracellular calcium levels. Transcriptomics, proteomics, and network pharmacology identify potential targets (AHCYL2, SEMA3A, PTHLH, TGF-beta 2, and CYP11A1) for Sr-mediated regulation of Ca2+ metabolism.

Strontium Attenuates Hippocampal Damage via Suppressing Neuroinflammation in High-Fat Diet-Induced NAFLD Mice

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that strontium (Sr) has a protective effect on hippocampal damage in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) mice. Sr can reduce the expression of caspase-3 by suppressing endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), and inhibit neuroinflammation and the expression of inflammatory cytokines, thereby alleviating NAFLD-induced hippocampal damage. This finding suggests that Sr could be a potential candidate for protecting against neural damage caused by NAFLD.

Sodium Propionate Relieves LPS-Induced Inflammation by Suppressing the NF-κB and MAPK Signaling Pathways in Rumen Epithelial Cells of Holstein Cows

Chenxu Zhao et al.

Summary: Subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) is a common disease in intensive dairy farming, where the rumen environment acidifies, causing the release of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from gram-negative bacteria. LPS can lead to rumentitis and other complications. This study investigates the anti-inflammatory effects of sodium propionate (SP) in reducing LPS-induced inflammation in rumen epithelial cells (RECs) and the underlying mechanism.

The anti-inflammation effect of strontium ranelate on rat chondrocytes with or without IL-1β in vitro

Hao Yu et al.

Summary: The study found that strontium ranelate can suppress the inflammatory response in TMJ-OA and promote cartilage regeneration. Strontium ranelate not only reduces the expression of inflammatory factors but also increases the synthesis of cartilage matrix. These results suggest that strontium ranelate may be a promising drug for the treatment of TMJ-OA.

Impact of Sr2+ and hypoxia on 3D triple cultures of primary human osteoblasts, osteocytes and osteoclasts

Katharina Wirsig et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Sr2+ and hypoxic cultivation on bone cells using an in vitro bone triple culture model. The results show that Sr2+ stimulates ALP activity in osteoblasts, but reduces gene marker expression in osteoblasts and osteocytes, while enhancing activity of osteoclast-specific enzymes. Hypoxic cultivation leads to decreased DNA content in all bone cells, as well as downregulated gene marker expression in osteoblasts and osteocytes.

Subacute ruminal acidosis in dairy herds: Microbiological and nutritional causes, consequences, and prevention strategies

Mawda E. Elmhadi et al.

Summary: Dairy cattle in modern intensive feeding systems, especially during the transition period, are often fed high-concentrate diets. Switching to a high-concentrate diet can disrupt the balance of rumen microbiota and lead to subacute ruminal acidosis. The composition of the diet, particularly the ratio of starch to fibrous carbohydrates, plays a crucial role in shaping the rumen microbiota. Feeding highly fermentable carbohydrate diets can result in a decrease in ruminal pH due to the imbalance between fermentation rate and absorption and buffering rates.

Location-specific cell identity rather than exposure to GI microbiota defines many innate immune signalling cascades in the gut epithelium

Ozge Kayisoglu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates extensive spatial organization of innate immune signaling components along the cephalocaudal axis in the GI tract. This organization is largely determined before birth and independent of exposure to commensal gut microbiota. Gastric epithelial organoids can sense LPS from both the basal and apical sides.

Summary: The study synthesized a new polysaccharide complex, CMCSSr, and confirmed its therapeutic effects on relieving osteoarthritis through various biological experiments. The results showed that CMCSSr can promote chondrocyte proliferation, suppress apoptosis, and facilitate the secretion of Type II collagen. Additionally, animal studies demonstrated that CMCSSr effectively reduced articular cartilage damage and subchondral bone degradation.
