Intranasal drug delivery: opportunities and toxicologic challenges during drug development

Lea-Adriana Keller et al.

Summary: In the last decade, there has been a growing interest in intranasal drug delivery in pharmaceutical R&D. This review article highlights the advantages of nasal delivery for local and systemic drug delivery, as well as for CNS indications, compared to conventional systemic approaches. However, formulation limitations and toxicological considerations remain areas that need further optimization in this field.

Development of composite carbon quantum dots-insulin formulation for oral administration br

Gamze Camlik et al.

Summary: Diabetes is a leading cause of death worldwide. New technologies have led to the development of effective antihyperglycemic drugs that can deliver active molecules. Studies have shown that nanostructures, such as quantum dots, can be administered orally and have significant blood glucose-reducing effects. This study investigated the use of carbon quantum dots to transport insulin orally and found that they can protect insulin from gastrointestinal enzymes. Additionally, it was discovered that carbon quantum dots can increase cellular response and metabolism, leading to an anti-hyperglycemic effect.

Formation of quantum water in nanoparticulate systems

Firat Yerlikaya et al.

Summary: The focus on nanoparticles and drugs in the development of new drug delivery systems has overlooked the potential impact of alterations in water properties. Unexpected results have been observed when nanoparticles or nanotubes interact with water molecules, potentially leading to the formation of a new state of water known as Quantum water. These changes can significantly impact dissolution characteristics and bioavailability of drugs, underscoring the importance of considering water properties in nanoparticulate systems.
