Seasonal Length-Weight Relationships of European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) in Two Aquaculture Production Systems

Carlos Orduna et al.

Summary: This study investigated the seasonal variation in length-weight relationships for European sea bass from two different farming systems. The results showed significant differences in intercept and slope between the two facilities, as well as between the same seasons within each facility. This emphasizes the importance of using specific length-weight equations for accurate biomass estimation based on fish length data.

Distribution and photosynthetic potential of epilithic periphyton along an altitudinal gradient in Jue River (Qinling Mountain, China)

Nan Li et al.

Summary: Periphyton in aquatic ecosystems, comprising prokaryotes and eukaryotes, play a crucial role in element cycling. This study used DNA metabarcoding to investigate the distribution characteristics of epilithic periphyton in the Jue River and its tributaries in China. The results showed that water quality variables, such as salinity, water temperature, and nitrogen concentrations, increased with decreasing elevation. Additionally, salinity, nutrients, and total dissolved solids were identified as crucial variables shaping periphyton community structure. The photosynthetic efficiency of periphyton declined at high altitudes due to lower chlorophyte abundance.

LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP AND RELATIVE CONDITION FACTOR OF 31 SMALL-SIZED FISHES OF THE PARANAPANEMA RIVER BASIN

Joao Daniel Ferraz et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the length-weight relationship and relative condition factor of small-sized fish species in lagoons and tributaries of two reservoirs in Brazil. Results showed that most population allometric coefficients were concentrated between 2.5 and 3.5, and the Kn values demonstrated no statistical difference, indicating similar condition factors among the fish species in different environments. The study provides important information for the conservation of fish fauna and understanding of small-sized fish in their living environment.
