The luminescence and scintillation characteristics of Eu2O3-doped tellurite glasses were investigated. The samples exhibited multiple photoluminescence peaks and scintillation peaks originating from the 4f -> 4f transition of Eu3+. The afterglow levels decreased with increasing Eu2O3 concentration.
To develop glass scintillators, Eu2O3-doped tellurite glasses (TeO2-Nb2O5-SrO-Eu2O3) (TNbSrEu) were prepared, and their luminescence characteristics were investigated. Several photoluminescence peaks at about 578, 592, 613, 652, and 701 nm were observed when excited by 530 nm excitation light. They originated from 4f -> 4f transition of Eu3+. Their photoluminescence decay times under 530 nm excitation light were approximately 0.7 ms, which was a typical time of 4f -> 4f transition of Eu3+. Further, some scintillation peaks originating from 4f -> 4f transition of Eu3+ were detected at 577, 593, 613, and 652 nm, and scintillation decay times were in the time region of 0.21-0.35 ms. Furthermore, the afterglow levels were from 560 ppm to 317 ppm, showing a decreasing trend in levels with increasing Eu2O3 concentration.
