Summary: This review discusses the chemical composition of flaxseed and its effects on female reproductive state, ovarian cells and reproductive hormones. Flaxseed contains biologically active molecules that can have various physiological and therapeutic effects, mediated through multiple signaling pathways. The actions of flaxseed and its constituents on the female reproductive system, including ovarian growth, follicle development and reproductive cycles, are determined by flaxseed lignans and alpha-linolenic acid. These effects are mediated by changes in metabolism, reproductive hormones, binding proteins, receptors and intracellular signaling pathways. Flaxseed and its active molecules have potential applications in improving farm animal reproductive efficiency and treating polycystic ovarian syndrome and ovarian cancer.

Summary: Current state-of-the-art de novo long read genome assemblers often require excessive RAM. Our work introduces GoldRush, a new algorithm with linear time complexity that achieves efficient genome assembly using a dynamic data structure. We tested GoldRush on different datasets and demonstrated its scalability and effectiveness in producing high-quality assembly scaffolds within a day.

Summary: There is a strong interest in using genome editing to domesticate wild plants or improve weakly domesticated crops through de novo domestication. Genetic strategies, especially in plant development, are discussed as promising approaches. Genome editing allows us to draw solutions from diversity rather than relying on random mutagenesis or intraspecific diversity. However, limited understanding of the complex genetics of diversity hinders innovation. In addition to genetics, the ethical use of indigenous knowledge, indigenous plants, and ethnobotany is emphasized. De novo domestication still requires conventional breeding through phenotypic selection, particularly for crops in diverse environments and cultures. Combining genome editing with selective breeding could lead to faster and better outcomes than using either technology alone. Domestication is a complex and not fully understood process that involves changes in various aspects of plant biology and human culture. Successful de novo domestication requires careful attention to history and collaboration across traditional boundaries.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of flaxseed oil as a feed additive on the growth, oxidative stress, immunity, and disease resistance of rainbow trout. The results showed that the addition of flaxseed oil increased the final weight and specific growth rate of the fish, as well as their resistance to a specific bacteria. Furthermore, flaxseed oil improved the immune response and reduced oxidative damage in the fish.

Summary: A high-quality genome assembly for the popular flax variety Neiya No. 9 in China was reported, which covered 94.7% of the flax genome. Through morphological and cytological observations and GWAS analysis, the molecular mechanism of male sterility in flax was revealed. The identified male sterility genes provide a solid foundation for flax breeding.

Summary: Climate change will impact crop productivity, and agriculture needs to adapt to support future food production. Wild plant species may have genes that can support crop adaptation to changing environments. By identifying individuals with enhanced climate resilience, we can understand the genomic basis for this resilience and apply it to crop breeding.

Summary: Plants produce diverse natural chemicals that play adaptive roles throughout their life cycles. However, the complexity and size of plant genomes hinder the exploration of metabolic diversity. Advances in genome sequencing and pan-genomic data analysis have revealed gene clusters associated with important agronomic traits in plants, leading to the discovery of plant metabolic diversification. The future of investigating metabolic diversity in plants lies in the pan-genomics era.

Summary: This review discusses the current knowledge of genome assembly, characteristics of oil plant genomes, and research progress of pan-genomics in oil plants. Oil plant genomes are highly diverse, and their genetic variation leads to a diversity in oil biosynthesis and accumulation along with agronomic traits. The availability of complete high-resolution genomes and pan-genomes has enabled the identification of structural variations in the genomes that are associated with the diversity of agronomic and environment fitness traits.

Summary: The genomes of male and female Populus x sibirica individuals were sequenced using Oxford Nanopore Technologies and Illumina platforms, leading to insights on sex determination and phylogeny in the genus Populus. The study revealed a high proportion of duplicated BUSCO and identified haplotypes of the sex-determining region, contributing to the understanding of genome separations and evolutionary history in P. x sibirica. Additionally, a Populus-specific repeat associated with translocation of the ARR17 gene was discovered, expanding knowledge on SDR features in Populus and poplar phylogeny.
