Summary: Conventional formal social accountability mechanisms for WASH service delivery in informal settlements have been inadequate, leading to growing interest in alternative informal SAMs. Co-creation of iSAMs, involving parents, childcare managers, researchers, and other stakeholders, has the potential to meet urgent WASH needs. However, implementation failures and contextual fit issues have limited the effectiveness of iSAMs.

Summary: It is acknowledged that vulnerable populations are greatly impacted when their health and wellbeing needs are not met. Efforts to protect and promote their health and wellbeing have not effectively addressed the challenges faced by older persons, people with disabilities, and children heads of households. Understanding the drivers of vulnerability is important for reducing health and wellbeing inequities, especially in informal urban spaces.

Demand and supply-side barriers and opportunities to enhance access to healthcare for urban poor populations in Kenya: a qualitative study

Summary: This study aimed to explore the barriers to and options for improving access to quality healthcare for the urban poor in Nairobi, Kenya. The findings suggest that socio-economic status, community-level factors, and health system factors interact to limit healthcare access and perpetuate health inequities. Limited involvement in decision-making processes by service providers and other key stakeholders was identified as a major challenge. The study emphasizes the importance of tailored multisectoral strategies to address individual, community, and system-level barriers to quality healthcare.

How co-production contributes to urban equality: retrospective lessons from Dar es Salaam

What about Using Photovoice for Health and Safety?

These objectives cover communication, education, exploration, awareness, and empowerment, indicating the potential for photovoice to be used as a tool in health and safety management. Further development of theoretical frameworks and guidance is recommended to facilitate its implementation.

This article highlights the challenges posed by existing government responses, including poor accountability structures and targeted income support only for the 'most vulnerable'. Improving community-led enumeration, accountability for distribution, and widening income support is necessary to build solidarity and improve the future resilience of these vulnerable communities.
