Nuciferine ameliorates high-fat diet-induced disorders of glucose and lipid metabolism in obese mice based on the gut-liver axis

Xiangyang Zhu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of nuciferine on glucose and lipid metabolism disorders induced by high-fat diets in obese mice models and the underlying mechanisms. The results showed that nuciferine effectively improved HFD-induced insulin resistance through the IRS/PI3K/AKT pathway and alleviated lipid accumulation by regulating the expression of FAS and ATGL via AMPK. Nuciferine also protected against HFD-induced intestinal damage and altered the composition of gut microbiota. Overall, nuciferine ameliorated glucose and lipid metabolism disorders in obese mice by balancing the gut-liver axis.

Nuciferine protects against folic acid-induced acute kidney injury by inhibiting ferroptosis

Danyu Li et al.

Summary: Nuciferine effectively mitigates pathological changes and kidney dysfunction in mice with folic acid-induced acute kidney injury, as well as prevents RSL3-induced ferroptotic cell death in vitro. The protective effect of nuciferine against ferroptosis is associated with its ability to prevent iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, as well as its interaction with GPX4.

Rili Hao et al.

Summary: Cadmium-induced liver damage was significantly reduced by caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) through multiple pathways, including alleviation of oxidative stress, inhibition of apoptosis, and suppression of inflammation. This study provides novel insights into the treatment of cadmium-related diseases through targeting miR-182-5p/TLR4 axis.

Anti-Obesity Drug Orlistat Alleviates Western-Diet-Driven Colitis-Associated Colon Cancer via Inhibition of STAT3 and NF-κB-Mediated Signaling

Bo-Ram Jin et al.

Summary: The study found that Western diet exacerbates the development and progression of colon cancer, inducing inflammation, hyperplasia, and tumorigenicity through the activation of STAT3 and NF-kappa B signaling. Additionally, the anti-obesity agent orlistat can improve survival rates, alleviate symptoms of CAC, and suppress tumor progression by inhibiting inflammation and activating STAT3 and NF-kappa B.
