The preparation of MnO2/BSA/CdTe quantum dots complex for ratiometric fluorescence/T1-weighted MRI detection of H2O2

Wenfeng Bai et al.

Summary: Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) acts as a second messenger in cells, regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration. Effective identification and detection of H2O2 signals in circulating tumor cells are crucial for early tumor diagnosis. In this study, a dual-mode imaging material called MnBQ, which combines fluorescence and T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), was successfully prepared. A fluorescence/T1-weighted MRI dual-mode sensor based on the chemical redox reaction between MnBQ and H2O2 was developed for quantitative analysis of H2O2. The sensor exhibited a lowest limit detection of 2.841 mu mol/L and 43.85 mu mol/L, respectively, in fluorescence and MRI detection. With high sensitivity and spatial resolution, this imaging sensor shows potential for in vivo monitoring of H2O2.

Multifunctional manganese oxide-based nanocomposite theranostic agent with glucose/light-responsive singlet oxygen generation and dual-modal imaging for cancer treatment

Chiranjeevi Korupalli et al.

Summary: Development of tumor microenvironment (TME) modifying nanomedicine with cooperative effect between multiple stimuli responsive therapeutic modalities is necessary to achieve lower dosage induced tumor specific therapy. In this study, a multifunctional nanocomposite (MBIG NCs) was developed to modulate oxidative stress in TME, resulting in higher therapeutic efficacy. The MBIG NCs exhibited chemodynamic, photodynamic, photothermal, magnetic resonance, and fluorescence imaging properties, making them potential theranostic agents for cancer diagnosis and target specific therapy.

Multifunctional nanomedicines-enabled chemodynamic- synergized multimodal tumor therapy via Fenton and Fenton-like reactions

Haiyan Gao et al.

Summary: Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) utilizes the tumor microenvironment to generate strong oxidative radicals for tumor-specific treatment. However, the efficiency of the Fenton reaction is limited by the tumor microenvironment and specific conditions. Combined therapies involving nanomaterials offer new opportunities for enhancing CDT. This review explores the combination therapy of CDT with other antitumor therapies and discusses strategies for improving antitumor efficiency.
