Orbital-angular-momentum fluorescence emission based on photon-electron interaction in a vortex field of an active optical fiber

Yan Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, we developed a model of interaction between photons and electrons in an active vortex field, which can generate a fluorescence spectrum with the characteristics of orbital angular momentum. We experimentally demonstrated the emission of broad-spectrum fluorescence with OAM features in a ring-core erbium-doped fiber, and successfully identified the spiral-shaped interferograms of OAM modes.

Tunable, high-power, high-order optical vortex beam generation in the mid-infrared

Varun Sharma et al.

Summary: We report the generation of tunable high-order optical vortices in the mid-infrared using a picosecond optical parametric oscillator. By transferring the pump optical vortices to the non-resonant idler beam, high-order idler vortices are generated in the mid-IR. This study demonstrates the first OPO pumped by a vortex beam of order as high as 5 and generating idler vortices of high order in the mid-IR.

Tunable 2.3-3 μm optical vortex parametric laser

Shutong Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a tunable optical vortex output was generated using an optical-vortex-pumped singly resonant parametric oscillator. The signal beam with Gaussian spatial profile was also observed. Experimental measurements and theoretical explanations were provided for the wide spectral bandwidth observed near the wavelength degeneracy.

Over 100 nm Bandwidth Orbital Angular Momentum Modes Amplification For MDM and WDM Transmission With a Ring-Core Bi/Er Co-Doped Fiber

Yan Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, a ring-core Bi/Er co-doped fiber was designed and fabricated for broad-spectrum amplification of OAM modes. The gains of OAM(1) and OAM(2) modes deviated from the average gain, with gains being less than 1.8 dB and 1.9 dB respectively. The differential mode gain (DMG) between the two modes was less than 1.0 dB over a 100 nm bandwidth. The amplification of OAM modes was achieved at wavelengths up to 1626 nm, allowing for OAM multiplexed amplification of WDM signals.

Low-loss and helical-phase-dependent selective excitation of high-order orbital angular momentum modes in a twisted ring-core fiber

Yan Wu et al.

Summary: We propose a method for selectively generating high-order orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes using a twisted ring-core fiber (RCF). Experimental results demonstrate the excitation of OAM modes up to the fourth order, indicating that the twist direction can control the helical phase of the modes. Compared with other methods, this approach has the advantages of low loss, high mode purity, and simple fabrication.

Widely-tunable mid-infrared (2.6-5 μm) picosecond vortex laser

Dana Jashaner et al.

Summary: We present a widely-tunable mid-infrared picosecond optical vortex laser source, utilizing a synchronized-pumped optical parametric oscillator optimized for emission up to 5 μm in the mid-infrared range. The vortex output with a continuously-tunable wavelength range of 2.6-5 μm can be achieved by translating the MgO:PPLN crystal. At the maximum pump power of 15 W, the measured maximum idler output powers were 3.7 W, 1.7 W, and 0.165 W at wavelengths of 2.6 μm, 3.8 μm, and 5 μm, respectively. The corresponding photon conversion efficiencies were estimated to be 60% at 2.6 μm, 40% at 3.8 μm, and 5.2% at 5 μm.
