Microstructure evolution and tensile property of TiAl alloy using continuous direct energy deposition technique

Fang Cheng et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the evolution of microstructure, microhardness, and tensile properties of TiAl alloy prepared using a continuous direct energy deposition technique (CDED). The results show that the alloy consists of columnar grains with very fine (α2+γ) lamellae, and a special duplex γ microstructure forms.

Grain boundary engineering during the laser powder bed fusion of TiC/316L stainless steel composites: New mechanism for forming TiC-induced special grain boundaries

Jing Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel machining solution for controlling microstructures in composites during laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) was proposed. The mechanism of special grain boundary and nanotwin formation in TiC/316L stainless steel composite was investigated. By optimizing the process parameters, including laser power, scanning speed, and hatch spacing, the residual stress and grain refinement in the TiC/316LSS composite were successfully achieved.

Enhanced creep properties of Y2O3-bearing Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloys

Yingfei Guo et al.

Summary: The addition of Y2O3 significantly enhanced the creep properties of Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy, increasing creep rupture life three times and reducing minimum creep rate by one-third. The presence of Y2O3 hindered dislocation climb and prevented sub-boundary formation, contributing to the excellent creep properties of the doped alloy.

Metastable phase and microstructural degradation of a TiAl alloy produced via selective electron beam melting

Hangyu Yue et al.

Summary: Selective electron beam melting (SEBM) is used to fabricate TiAl alloys with low energy density, resulting in phase transformation, inhomogeneous microstructure, and varying microhardness. The main routes for microstructural degradation are the decomposition of α2 lamellae and coarsening of the lamellar structure, leading to an increase in microhardness with the lamellar colony content.

Effects of Tantalum on the microstructure and properties of Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy fabricated via laser additive manufacturing

Zhanqi Liu et al.

Summary: By using Ti48Al2Cr2Nb/Ta mixed powders as raw materials and a laser additive manufacturing technique, Ti48Al2Cr2Nb-xTa alloy specimens were obtained without metallurgical defects. The addition of different Ta contents resulted in changes in microstructures, phase compositions, and tensile properties of the TiAl alloys. The alloy with 5 at.%Ta had the best overall tensile properties, with increased strength and elongation compared to the alloy without Ta addition.
