Hybrid Epoxy Nanocomposites: Improvement in Mechanical Properties and Toughening Mechanisms-A Review

Anita Bialkowska et al.

Summary: This article reviews recent advances in ternary diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A epoxy nanocomposites with nanoparticles and other modifiers, focusing on their mechanical and thermal properties. Various single toughening agents, in solid or liquid states, have been incorporated to enhance the properties of epoxy resins. The use of two appropriate modifiers for hybrid composites can potentially have a synergistic effect on performance properties. The study mainly focuses on widely used nanoclays with modifiers in both liquid and solid states. Some studies have confirmed the synergistic effect in the performance properties of epoxy matrix, but ongoing research is still exploring other nanoparticles and modifiers to further enhance the mechanical and thermal properties of epoxy resins.

A comprehensive study on novel alumino-borosilicate glass reinforced with Bi2O3 for radiation shielding applications: synthesis, spectrometer, XCOM, and MCNP-X works

Recep Kurtulus et al.

Summary: The study investigated a novel glass system in terms of physical properties and radiation shielding competencies. Increasing the amount of Bi2O3 in substitution for SiO2 increased the glass density, while XRD patterns showed non-crystallinity in the ABS series. The glass with the highest Bi2O3 content (ABS4) exhibited the highest mass attenuation coefficient (MAC).

Monte Carlo simulations study on gamma ray-neutron shielding characteristics for vinyl ester composites

Iskender Akkurt et al.

Summary: The study aimed to report the gamma ray-neutron attenuation parameters of eight types of vinyl ester pumice (V-P) composites across a wide energy range of 511-2140 keV using MCNPX and FLUKA codes. Results showed that FLUKA code can be used as an alternative technique to determine the attenuation features of vinyl ester composites, and the composite coded as V-P50 can be a competitive candidate for shielding gamma rays and neutrons.
