DEM-DDM Investigation of the Tablet Coating Process Using Different Particle Shape Models

Summary: In this study, the coating process of tablets in the pharmaceutical industry was investigated using the discrete element method-discrete droplet method (DEM-DDM). The influence of different particle shape models on inter-tablet coating uniformity was examined. The results showed that the polyhedron and multi-super-ellipsoid approaches had similar inter-tablet coating uniformity, while the multi-sphere approach had lower uniformity. The study also analyzed the impact of different parameters on inter-tablet coating uniformity, providing guidance for the tablet coating process.

Understanding the correlations between tablet flow dynamics and coating uniformity in a pan coater: Experiments and simulations
