Exploring developments of the AI field from the perspective of methods, datasets, and metrics

Rujing Yao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to trace and mine valuable information in academic literature using artificial intelligence (AI) markers. Firstly, AI markers are extracted from large-scale AI literature using a named entity recognition model. Then, original papers are traced for AI markers and statistical and propagation analyses are performed. Finally, clustering analysis is conducted using co-occurrences of AI markers to explore the evolution within method clusters. The study reveals significant findings, such as the increasing propagation rate of datasets and the growing influence of methods proposed by China in recent years on other countries.

From what to how: Extracting the Procedural Scientific Information Toward the Metric-optimization in AI

Yongqiang Ma et al.

Summary: In response to the exponential growth of scientific publications, researchers propose a new schema called metric-driven mechanism schema to provide procedural scientific information on optimizing quantitative metrics for specific tasks. They conducted a study in the NLP domain and constructed a dataset for metric-driven mechanisms. They also developed a framework with three sub-models to extract and recognize metric-driven mechanisms. A metric-driven mechanism knowledge graph was then constructed with high accuracy. This research has the potential to assist applied AI scientists in solving specific problems.

Measuring security development in information technologies: A scientometric framework using arXiv e-prints

Dimitri Percia David et al.

Summary: We conduct a scientometric analysis on arXiv e-prints (n = 340,569) related to 20 computer-science technology categories, exploring security-development patterns. Our findings reveal the process characteristics of technological change and security development, as well as the lack of relationship between them. Additionally, we identify an inverse relation between security attention and experts' opinion. We also propose new methods for modeling security-development patterns for broader sets of technologies.

Planarized sentence representation for nested named entity recognition

Rushan Geng et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a strategy to recognize nested entities by enumerating overlapped entity spans for classification. Then, a bi-directional two-dimensional recurrent operation is used to learn semantic dependencies between spans. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in resolving nested named entities and learning semantic dependencies between them.
