Mandelic Acid Single-Crystal Growth: Experiments vs Numerical Simulations

Q. Tan et al.

Summary: This study introduces a numerical tool based on lattice Boltzmann simulations to model the crystallization dynamics of (S)-mandelic acid. The solver is validated against experimental data and used to analyze the effects of parameters such as supersaturation and seed size on the growth rate. Additionally, the impact of forced convection on crystal habits is investigated, and a modification of the reactor geometry is proposed to reduce deviations from symmetrical growth.

Low Mach number lattice Boltzmann model for turbulent combustion: Flow in confined geometries

Seyed Ali Hosseini et al.

Summary: This article extends a hybrid lattice Boltzmann/finite-difference solver for low Mach thermo-compressible flows to more realistic and challenging configurations involving turbulence and complex geometries. The major innovation is the application of a more robust collision operator, which significantly improves the stability of the model and allows for larger Reynolds number flow simulations. The solver is used to simulate combustion in two configurations, and the results show very good agreement with previous numerical and experimental studies, demonstrating the excellent performance of the hybrid solver.

Modeling ice crystal growth using the lattice Boltzmann method

Q. Tan et al.

Summary: The present study focuses on the development and validation of a modified phase-field model for simulating snowflake crystal growth. The model accurately captures the coupling between species and phase growth, as well as the hydrodynamics-induced asymmetrical growth. The validated model is used to simulate snowflake growth under different ambient conditions, and the resulting crystal habits are compared to experimental data. The study also investigates the effects of forced convection on snowflake growth.

Continuous enantioselective crystallization of chiral compounds in coupled fluidized beds

J. Gaensch et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the results of an interdisciplinary project aimed at improving access to enantiopure components through an advanced continuous separation process. It combines selective crystallization with integrated product classification and presents new original results regarding theoretical process description and experimental validation. While focusing on one specific chiral system, the conceptual approaches are seen as useful tools for the development of productive continuously operating enantioselective crystallization processes applicable to numerous chiral molecules.

Central moments multiple relaxation time LBM for hemodynamic simulations in intracranial aneurysms: An in-vitro validation study using PIV and PC-MRI

Seyed Ali Hosseini et al.

Summary: The study focuses on implementing and validating a specific collision operator for simulating blood flow in intracranial aneurysms and validates the numerical model through different test cases. Low-resolution simulations are shown to capture blood flow information accurately while significantly reducing computational time.
