Functional Characterization of the GNAT Family Histone Acetyltransferase Elp3 and GcnE in Aspergillus fumigatus

Young-Ho Choi et al.

Summary: Post-translational modifications of chromatin structure by histone acetyltransferase (HATs) are crucial for gene expression regulation and various biological processes. The function of GNAT family HATs, especially Elp3, in the opportunistic human pathogenic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus remains largely unknown. In this study, we investigated the roles of Elp3 and GcnE in A. fumigatus by generating and characterizing individual null Delta elp3 and Delta gcnE mutants. The results showed that Elp3 and GcnE are associated with diverse biological processes and can be potential targets for controlling the pathogenic fungus.

Histone acetyltransferases MystA and MystB contribute to morphogenesis and aflatoxin biosynthesis by regulating acetylation in fungus Aspergillus flavus

Xuan Chen et al.

Summary: The study revealed that MystA and MystB in Aspergillus flavus play significant roles in regulating conidiation, sclerotia formation, and aflatoxin production, with MystB being particularly important. Additionally, the catalytic domain and catalytic site of Myst are crucial for its acetyltransferase function, and mystB is involved in oxidative detoxification.

The protein kinase Ire1 has a Hac1-independent essential role in iron uptake and virulence of Candida albicans

Bernardo Ramirez-Zavala et al.

Summary: Protein kinases play important roles in the adaptation of Candida albicans to iron limitation. The protein kinase Ire1 is crucial for the growth of C. albicans under iron-limiting conditions, as it is required for the localization of the high-affinity iron permease Ftr1 to the cell membrane. Ire1 functions independently of endoplasmic reticulum stress and is essential for the virulence of C. albicans.

Aspergillus fumigatus, One Uninucleate Species with Disparate Offspring

Francois Danion et al.

Summary: The germination of Aspergillus fumigatus is shown to be asynchronous, regardless of the nutritional environment and extensive gene deletions. The reasons for this asynchrony remain unknown, but it is essential for the completion of the biological cycle of this filamentous fungus.

Characterization of the mbsA Gene Encoding a Putative APSES Transcription Factor in Aspergillus fumigatus

Summary: The deletion of the mbsA gene in Aspergillus fumigatus results in impaired growth and sporulation, altered spore wall structure, increased gliotoxin production but reduced virulence, potentially due to defects in the SakA signaling pathway.
