PIF4-PAP1 interaction affects MYB-bHLH-WD40 complex formation and anthocyanin accumulation in Arabidopsis

Juan Qin et al.

Summary: Anthocyanin accumulation is a prominent trait in plants under environmental stresses, with PIF4 playing a negative regulatory role in modulating anthocyanin biosynthesis by interacting with PAP1 in the MBW complex. This interaction interferes with the regulation of the MBW protein complex and leads to reduced anthocyanin content in Arabidopsis under various stress conditions.

Functional Characterization of Flavanone 3-Hydroxylase (F3H) and Its Role in Anthocyanin and Flavonoid Biosynthesis in Mulberry

Mingjie Dai et al.

Summary: In this study, the MazsF3H gene was cloned and characterized from Morus atropurpurea var. Zhongshen 1, and its important role in the accumulation of anthocyanin in fruits was discovered. The expression levels of F3H varied in different mulberry varieties, possibly related to fruit color. Overexpression of MazsF3H in tobacco resulted in decreased anthocyanin content, while down-regulation of F3H expression levels led to a significant decrease in anthocyanin content.

Anthocyanin Biosynthesis Induced by MYB Transcription Factors in Plants

Changxia Li et al.

Summary: Anthocyanins are polyphenolic pigments found widely in plants. They have antioxidant properties and play a protective role against both abiotic and biotic stresses. Recent studies have shown that MYB transcription factors (MYB TFs) can positively or negatively regulate the biosynthesis of anthocyanins. Understanding the roles of MYB TFs is crucial in explaining how they regulate the accumulation of anthocyanins. In this review, the signaling pathways involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis mediated by MYB TFs are summarized, including jasmonic acid signaling, cytokinins signaling, temperature-induced signaling, light signal, 26S proteasome pathway, NAC TFs, and bHLH TFs. The structural and regulator genes induced by MYB TFs, target genes bound and activated or suppressed by MYB TFs, and the crosstalk between MYB TFs and other proteins are found to be vital in the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis.

SPX4 interacts with both PHR1 and PAP1 to regulate critical steps in phosphorus-status-dependent anthocyanin biosynthesis

Yuqing He et al.

Summary: Phosphate is the plant-accessible form of phosphorus, and its deficiency limits plant growth. Studies show that phosphate deficiency can lead to over-accumulation of anthocyanins in plants, and SPX4 plays a role in transmitting the phosphate starvation signal to anthocyanin biosynthesis pathways.

Spatio-temporal control of phenylpropanoid biosynthesis by inducible complementation of a cinnamate 4-hydroxylase mutant

Jeong Im Kim et al.

Summary: The expression of C4H enzyme in Arabidopsis plants can affect the synthesis and turnover of phenylpropanoids in the phenylpropanoid pathway, thus impacting plant development and lignin production. The restoration of fertility and substantial lignin production in plants with well-developed primary inflorescence stems upon C4H expression indicates the plasticity of the developmental window for lignification. Additionally, a defective Casparian strip diffusion barrier was identified in the root endodermis of the ref3-2 mutant, which was restored by induction of C4H expression.

Konstantin V. Kiselev et al.

Summary: This study successfully regulated the CHS gene and anthocyanin accumulation in Arabidopsis through exogenous dsRNA treatments, and induced relevant biochemical changes by targeting the MYBL2 and ANAC032 genes. The results demonstrate that dsRNAs can efficiently downregulate Arabidopsis genes and induce biochemical changes.
