Effect of postruminal supply of linseed oil in dairy cows: 2. Milk fatty acid profile and oxidative stability

Daniel E. Rico et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effect of increased post-ruminal supply of linseed oil (L-oil) on milk fatty acid profile and the development of volatile degradation products during the storage of homogenized milk. The results showed that the concentration of cis-9, cis-12, cis-15 18:3 in milk fat linearly increased with the dose of L-oil, and the increase in the nine evaluated lipid oxidation products was also linearly greater with increasing infusion levels. These findings indicate that milk enriched in cis-9, cis-12, cis-15 18:3 through post-ruminal supply of L-oil is highly prone to oxidative degradation.

Effect of postruminal supply of linseed oil in dairy cows: 1. Production performance and fate of postruminally available α-linolenic acid

Rachel Gervais et al.

Summary: The aim of this experiment was to study the transfer efficiency of linseed oil. It was found that the transfer efficiency increased as the amount of oil infused increased, but the increase became slower when the infusion exceeded 150 ml/d.

Fatty acid profile characterization in colostrum, transition milk, and mature milk of primi- and multiparous cows during the first week of lactation

J. N. Wilms et al.

Summary: Colostrum has lower levels of short-chain fatty acids and higher levels of long-chain fatty acids compared to mature milk. Certain fatty acids are higher in primiparous cows at specific milking times. Colostrum has higher proportions and yields of polyunsaturated fatty acids compared to mature milk.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of the timing of acetate infusion on peripheral rhythms of milk synthesis and plasma metabolites in dairy cows. The results showed that the timing of acetate infusion can influence the daily rhythms of milk synthesis and plasma metabolites in cows.

Effects of abomasal infusions of fatty acids and 1-carbon donors on apparent fatty acid digestibility and incorporation into milk fat in cows

J. E. Rico et al.

Summary: The digestibility and content of 16C and 22C fatty acids in milk fat are influenced by different treatments, with 1-carbon donors having no effect on the digestibility of 22C fatty acids. The content and yield of 16:0 and 22:6 in milk fat show significant differences between different treatments.

Inclusion of soybean and linseed oils in the diet of lactating dairy cows makes the milk fatty acid profile nutritionally healthier for the human diet

Mauricio X. S. Oliveira et al.

Summary: The study found that adding soybean oil and linseed oil to the diet of lactating cows can improve the fatty acid profile of milk, reduce saturated fatty acid content, and increase unsaturated fatty acid content. Although oil supplementation decreased feed intake and milk fat content of cows, it helped improve the fatty acid composition of milk, making it more suitable for human consumption.
