An Avocado Extract Enriched in Mannoheptulose Prevents the Negative Effects of a High-Fat Diet in Mice

Paul J. Pistell et al.

Summary: This study found that consumption of a high-fat diet led to weight gain, increased body fat, elevated blood lipids and leptin levels, as well as reduced adiponectin levels, insulin sensitivity, VO2max, and motor capabilities in mice. However, the addition of an avocado extract enriched in MH to the high-fat diet completely protected the mice from these changes and attenuated oxidative stress. Furthermore, the MH-enriched avocado extract also mitigated the effects of the high-fat diet on the mechanistic target of rapamycin pathway.

The obesity treatment dilemma: Why dieting is both the answer and the problem? A mechanistic overview

Louis Monnier et al.

Summary: Restricted-calorie diets are commonly used for obesity treatment, but factors such as loose adherence to recommendations, energy sparing, misadaptation of antiobesity hormones, and changes in gut microbiota may limit their effectiveness. Weight loss is a challenging task, with prevention of obesity development being the primary solution.

Summary: The study suggests that inadequate omega-3 levels in the brain may increase the risk of neuropsychiatric disorders, while avocado oil as a dietary supplement may attenuate the oxidative stress and apoptosis induced by chronic cortisol exposure.

Glycolytic inhibition: an effective strategy for developing calorie restriction mimetics

Donald K. Ingram et al.

Summary: Calorie restriction mimetics is a field aimed at developing treatments that mimic the anti-aging effects of long-term calorie restriction. Glycolytic inhibition is considered an effective strategy to activate anti-aging mechanisms. Various compounds are being studied for their potential anti-aging effects, with some showing promising results.
