From research to action and back again: The long journey of organizational climate - A review of the literature and a summative framework

Alessia D'Amato

Summary: This study reviews the major frameworks of organizational climate and summarizes its key components. Thirteen dimensions consistently emerged, including communication, supervision/leadership, team cohesion, autonomy/self-governance, psycho-physical environment, reward systems/structures, innovation, decision-making, job description, role meaning and goals, coherence between strategy and operational implementation/fairness, integration and dynamism, and freedom of expression. Operational definitions are provided for each dimension, aiming to establish a common language for academics and practitioners and create a benchmark instrument validated across hierarchy, sector, and regional boundaries.
