Photo-Driven Hydrogen Production from Methanol and Water using Plasmonic Cu Nanoparticles Derived from Layered Double Hydroxides

Zhenhua Li et al.

Summary: A novel L-Cu catalyst is successfully fabricated for photo-driven methanol steam reforming, which exhibits outstanding activity in hydrogen production. The L-Cu catalyst shows much higher hydrogen production rates under ultraviolet-visible irradiation compared to the dark condition at the same temperature. This study introduces a new photothermal strategy for hydrogen generation from methanol, demonstrating the enormous potential of photothermal catalysis in the chemical and energy sectors.

Plasmonic Cu Nanoparticles for the Low-temperature Photo-driven Water-gas Shift Reaction

Jiaqi Zhao et al.

Summary: The activation of water molecules in thermal catalysis typically requires high temperatures, which poses a challenge for catalyst development in the low-temperature water-gas shift reaction (WGSR). Plasmonic photocatalysis provides a solution by activating water at low temperatures through the generation of light-induced hot electrons. In this study, a layered double hydroxide-derived copper catalyst (LD-Cu) was developed for efficient low-temperature photo-driven WGSR.

Co nanoparticles modified N-doped carbon nanosheets array as a novel bifunctional photothermal membrane for simultaneous solar-driven interfacial water evaporation and persulfate mediating water purification

Lingfang Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel bifunctional photothermal membrane (Co-N-C/CF) was designed for simultaneous water evaporation and persulfate mediating water purification. Combining the molecular thermal vibrations effect of carbon-based materials and the plasmonic effect of Co NPs, the membrane exhibited an impressive water evaporation rate (1.88 kg m-2 h-1) and could effectively activate persulfate for phenol removal. The combination of persulfate-based oxidation and solar-driven water evaporation shows great application potential in the durable and efficient production of clean water.

Perylenetetracarboxylic acid nanosheets with internal electric fields and anisotropic charge migration for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Yan Guo et al.

Summary: This study synthesized perylenetetracarboxylic acid nanosheets with a thickness of approximately 1.5 nm and demonstrated their activity as highly efficient hydrogen evolution photocatalysts. The introduction of carboxyl groups increased the internal electric fields, promoting charge-carrier separation, and weakened charge-carrier recombination by migrating photogenerated electrons and holes to the edge and plane, respectively. Furthermore, the reduction potential and hydrophilic sites of perylenetetracarboxylic acid were enhanced. This work provides a strategy for designing future efficient photocatalysts.
