Divergent Genomic Adaptations in the Microbiomes of Arctic Subzero Sea-Ice and Cryopeg Brines

Josephine Z. Rapp et al.

Summary: The study reveals stark differences in taxonomic composition and functional potential between microbial communities in sea-ice and cryopeg brines. Sea-ice communities have greater richness and diversity, dominated by bacterial genera, with fewer accessory traits encoded; whereas cryopeg communities exhibit greater genetic versatility and higher abundances of accessory traits involved in environmental response, transport, and social interactions.
