Red Emission from Copper-Vacancy Color Centers in Zinc Sulfide Colloidal Nanocrystals

Sarah M. Thompson et al.

Summary: Copper-doped zinc sulfide (ZnS:Cu) is a versatile phosphor material that exhibits down-conversion luminescence in various regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) of ZnS:Cu are of particular interest for quantum information science due to their precise control over size, composition, and surface chemistry. The researchers propose a method for synthesizing ZnS:Cu NCs that primarily emit red light, and they explore the thermodynamic stability and electronic structure of the CuZn-VS complex. The understanding of the emission dynamics and controlled synthesis of CuZn-VS in ZnS NCs will contribute to the development of quantum point defects in this material.

Atomically precise metal chalcogenide supertetrahedral clusters: frameworks to molecules, and structure to function

Jiaxu Zhang et al.

Summary: Metal chalcogenide supertetrahedral clusters (MCSCs) are of great significance for the development of crystalline porous framework materials and atomically precise cluster chemistry. They have attracted research interest in their synthetic and structural chemistry, as well as their applications in different fields. MCSCs have similar properties to semiconductor nanocrystals but avoid their drawbacks, making them suitable for various applications. This review provides a comprehensive overview of three decades of research on MCSCs and highlights their potential in future studies.

Revealing layer-dependent interlayer interactions by doping effect on graphene in WSe2/N-layer graphene heterostructures using Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy

Ya-Bing Shan et al.

Summary: Assembling vertically stacked heterostructures of layered materials enables the combination of different properties and investigation of novel phenomena. This study investigates the influence of thickness on interlayer interaction in WSe2/n-layer graphene (WSe2/nL-Gr) heterostructures using Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results show that the charge carrier concentration of graphene is significantly affected by interlayer coupling at the heterostructure interface. The study also discusses the change in electronic band structure of WSe2 and the efficient interlayer charge transfer observed in WSe2/N-Gr heterostructures.

Breakdown of Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion Theory in an H-Bond-Stabilized Linear sp-Hybridized Sulfur

Jin Wu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the stabilization of an sp-hybridized, linearly coordinated sulfur atom through hydrogen-bonding interactions in an indium-sulfur dimeric cluster, challenging the VSEPR theory. The findings may pave the way for a new branch of chemistry focusing on weak-interaction-determined unique hybridization of nonmetallic atoms.
