Effects of rotation and Coulomb-type potential on the spin-1/2 Aharonov-Bohm problem

Marcio M. Cunha et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the impact of rotation and a Coulomb potential on the quantum mechanical description of a spin-1/2 particle in the presence of the Aharonov-Bohm effect. We utilize the method of self-adjoint extensions within the framework of the Pauli-Schrodinger equation. We analyze the role of spin degree of freedom, determine the energy spectrum, and examine the findings in detail.

Optical Properties in a ZnS/CdS/ZnS Core/Shell/Shell Spherical Quantum Dot: Electric and Magnetic Field and Donor Impurity Effects

Rafael G. Toscano-Negrette et al.

Summary: A theoretical analysis of optical properties in a ZnS/CdS/ZnS core/shell/shell spherical quantum dot was conducted, considering variations of internal dot radius, the application of electric and magnetic fields, as well as the presence of on-center donor impurity. It was found that the transition energy decreases with the growth of internal radius and the increase of external magnetic field, leading to red-shift of resonant peaks. Conversely, the application of electric field resulted in a blue-shift of resonances but a decrease in the amplitude of optical responses. The activation of impurity effects caused a decrease in energy values, particularly impacting the ground state and resulting in an increase in transition energies.

Electronic states and optical characteristics of GaAs Spherical quantum dot based on Konwent-like confining potential: Role of the hydrogenic impurity and structure parameters

H. Dakhlaoui et al.

Summary: In this study, we used the Konwent-like spherical potential well to investigate the electronic states and optical characteristics of GaAs quantum dot with an on-center hydrogenic impurity for the first time. Using the effective-mass approximation, we numerically solved the radial component of Schrodinger equation to determine the energy level structure and wavefunctions. We then calculated the optical absorption coefficient (OAC) of the system using Fermi's golden rule and discussed the influence of different parameters on the OAC. Our results demonstrate the tunability of the OAC through adjusting the potential parameters.

Simultaneous effects of pressure, temperature, and external magnetic field on absorption threshold frequency of tuned quantum dot/ring systems: an analytical study

R. Khordad et al.

Summary: In this study, a tuned quantum dot/ring system under the simultaneous effects of temperature, pressure, and an external magnetic field is investigated. Analytical expressions for the energy eigenvalues, wave functions, interband light absorption coefficient, and absorption threshold frequency (ATF) are derived. The results show that the ATF decreases with increasing pressure, increases with an increase in the magnetic field and temperature, and can be optimized by varying the pressure, temperature, and magnetic field.

Nonlinear optical specifications of the Mathieu quantum dot with screw dislocation

Mustafa Kemal Bahar et al.

Summary: The nonlinear optical properties of screw dislocation Inx Ga1-x As/GaAs Mathieu quantum dots (MQDs) are theoretically studied for the first time, focusing on optical rectification (NOR), second harmonic generation (SHG), and third harmonic generation (THG). The effects of screw dislocation defect, external fields, Aharonov-Bohm flux, indium concentration (In), and quantum dot width on the NOR, SHG, and THG of MQDs are investigated in detail. The wave equation is solved using the effective mass approximation and the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method, considering the twist direction and structural symmetry. The discussion includes the influence of all parameters on the nonlinear optical properties and the optimality of the structure for a certain amount of screw dislocation.

Topological dislocation modes in three-dimensional acoustic topological insulators

Liping Ye et al.

Summary: Dislocations in solid-state materials have a significant impact on wave propagation due to their topological properties. However, the experimental evidence supporting this observation has been lacking. In this study, the researchers used a 3D acoustic weak topological insulator with controllable dislocations to provide direct experimental evidence for the existence of one-dimensional topological dislocation modes.

Optical properties of hydrogenic impurity in a distorted quantum disk

Shalini Lumb Talwar et al.

Summary: In this study, an on-centre hydrogenic impurity in a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum disk with azimuthal distortion was investigated. The complete energy spectrum and transition matrix elements were determined numerically. The optical properties, including linear and non-linear susceptibilities, absorption coefficients, and changes in refractive index, were calculated for different configurations of the system. It was found that the non-central nature of the potential greatly altered these optical properties. Additionally, external magnetic and static electric fields, as well as disk size, were found to have a significant influence on the properties of the distorted quantum disk.

Effects of hydrostatic pressure and temperature on refractive index changes in tuned quantum dots under magnetic field

Ceng Chang et al.

Summary: This study theoretically investigates the effects of external magnetic field, hydrostatic pressure, temperature, and radius of quantum dots (QDs) on refractive index changes (RICs) of tuned QDs. Energy levels and wave functions are derived using the effective mass approximation, and the nonlinear RICs are obtained through a compact-density-matrix approach and iterative method. Numerical simulations show that under various constraint factors, the resonant peak of RICs shifts towards higher energy or lower energy, known as blue shift or red shift, and the peak value of RICs also changes with the variation of parameters.

Observation of Degenerate Zero-Energy Topological States at Disclinations in an Acoustic Lattice

Yuanchen Deng et al.

Summary: In this study, a paradigm is devised and experimentally validated in acoustic lattices, which allows topological states to bind to disclinations without a fractional density of states but with preserved chiral symmetry. This study provides new insights into the interplay between symmetry protection in topological phases and topological defects, with potential applications in classical and quantum systems alike.

Electronic and optical properties of a D2+ complex in two-dimensional quantum dots with Gaussian confinement potential

H. Sari et al.

Summary: By using the two-dimensional diagonalization method and the effective mass approximation, this study investigates the electronic structure and intersubband optical absorption of a singly ionized double donor complex confined in a Gaussian quantum dot. The results show that the binding energy, dissociation energy, equilibrium distance, and amplitude of the optical absorption are significantly affected by the quantum dot size and internuclear distance. Furthermore, it is observed that an increase in the amplitude of the dipole-related matrix element and energy difference between the two lowest-lying energy states occurs when the distance between the donor atoms is in the order of the quantum dot size. Thus, the electronic and optical properties can be precisely controlled by adjusting the system's size and internuclear distance.

The effect of rashba spin-orbit interaction on optical far-infrared transition of tuned quantum dot/ring systems

P. Hashemi et al.

Summary: Theoretical investigation of the optical properties of tuned quantum dot/ring systems with consideration of the effect of Rashba spin-orbit interaction reveals that the impact rate of spin-orbit interaction on the optical properties is related to the quantum dot radius, depth of confining potential, and the Rashba coupling constant. Results also show that the total absorption coefficient is enhanced and shifts toward higher energies with the consideration of the effect of Rashba spin-orbit interaction, while the effect on the peak values of the refractive index changes is negligible.

Disclinations in the Geometric Theory of Defects

M. O. Katanaev

Summary: In the geometric theory of defects, media with spin structure are treated as manifolds with specific Riemann-Cartan geometry. The absence of elastic deformations under Euclidean metric but presence of nontrivial SO(3) connection leads to nontrivial curvature and torsion tensors. The 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole is shown to have a physical interpretation in solid state physics, representing continuous distribution of dislocations and disclinations in media.
