MORE PANICLES 3, a natural allele of OsTB1/FC1, impacts rice yield in paddy fields at elevated CO2 levels

Summary: By studying the response of crops to atmospheric CO2 levels, a gene, MP3, was identified that can increase panicle number and improve rice yield potential. This gene is more prevalent in temperate japonica rice cultivars and has been rarely utilized in artificial selection in indica cultivars. Additionally, it was found that planting temperate japonica rice and using the MP3 gene can further enhance yield potential under elevated atmospheric CO2 levels.

Genomic basis of geographical adaptation to soil nitrogen in rice
