Engineering a Copper Single-Atom Electron Bridge to Achieve Efficient Photocatalytic CO2 Conversion

Gang Wang et al.

Summary: We designed a Z-Scheme photocatalyst with N-Cu-1-S single-atom electron bridge (Cu-SAEB) to mediate the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The CO and O-2 production over Cu-SAEB reached as high as 236.0 and 120.1 mu mol g(-1) h(-1) in the absence of sacrificial agents, respectively, surpassing most previously reported photocatalysts. The highly stable Cu-SAEB throughout 30 reaction cycles, totaling 300 hours, was attributed to the strengthened contact interface and the N-Cu-1-S atomic structure.

Identification of the Active Sites on Metallic MoO2-x Nano-Sea-Urchin for Atmospheric CO2 Photoreduction Under UV, Visible, and Near-Infrared Light Illumination

Xi Wu et al.

Summary: We report an oxygen vacancy (V-o)-rich metallic MoO2-x nano-sea-urchin with partially occupied band, which exhibits super CO2 photoreduction performance under UV, visible and NIR light. The V-o-rich MoO2-x nano-sea-urchin shows significantly higher CH4 evolution rate compared to the V-o-poor MoO2-x, and can even reduce CO2 directly from the air. Experimental and theoretical results suggest that the oxygen vacancy in MoO2-x facilitates CO2 adsorption/activation and subsequent protonation of *CO towards the formation of CH4 due to the formation of a highly stable Mo-C-O-Mo intermediate.

Vertical graphene on rice-husk-derived SiC/C composite for highly selective photocatalytic CO2 reduction into CO

Linyi Wu et al.

Summary: Coupling graphene-based materials with SiC nanostructures is an effective strategy for improving photocatalytic CO2 reduction performance. In this study, vertical graphene (VG) sheets were synthesized on SiC nanowires derived from rice husks to form the VG@SiC/C composite. The resulting composite exhibited enhanced photocatalytic CO2 reduction, yielding CO and CH4 with yields of 25.5 and 2.3 μmol g-1 h-1, respectively, which is the highest CO yield among SiC-based photocatalysts. Defective VG sheets promoted sunlight absorption, CO2 adsorption and activation, electron-hole pair separation, and overall photocatalyst activity, leading to high CO2 reduction yield and selectivity.

Summary: Support materials play a crucial role in determining the dispersion, utilization, and stability of single metal atoms as part of single-atom catalysts. Defective and doped graphene was explored as a potential support for CO2 conversion to formic acid by having higher adsorption energy for Cu, Pd, and Ru supported on it. Path B, involving H2 adsorption on the support material, was found to dominate the CO2 hydrogenation reaction with lower energy barriers, especially in the case of Pd supported on defective graphene.
