Delivery of antibacterial agents for wound healing applications using polysaccharide-based scaffolds

Hamed Nosrati et al.

Summary: Skin serves as the primary barrier against pathogenic microorganisms and any significant damage to the skin can lead to bacterial invasion and wound infection. Effective wound management is crucial to prevent complications like tissue necrosis or sepsis, which can be life-threatening. Polysaccharide-based scaffolds containing antibacterial nanobiomaterials have gained interest for their immunological safety and ability to enhance wound healing by reducing bacterial colonization and infection. This review focuses on the delivery of antibacterial agents and nanobiomaterials via polysaccharide-based scaffolds for wound healing applications.

Fabricating Antibacterial and Antioxidant Electrospun Hydrophilic Polyacrylonitrile Nanofibers Loaded with AgNPs by Lignin-Induced In-Situ Method

Md. Kaiser Haider et al.

Summary: This study investigated the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers using lignin, demonstrating the presence of AgNPs and potential biomedical applications of the composite nanofibers. The synthesized AgNPs were found to be dependent on precursor silver salt and reductant lignin concentration, with promising antibacterial efficacy against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. Initial burst release of silver elements and proportionally expansive release amounts were observed, indicating the potential for use in biomedicine.
