Application of Machine Learning to Metabolomic Profile Characterization in Glioblastoma Patients Undergoing Concurrent Chemoradiation

Orwa Aboud et al.

Summary: This study characterized changes in metabolite patterns in glioblastoma patients undergoing surgery and concurrent chemoradiation using machine learning algorithms. Metabolomics analysis identified 157 metabolites, and the ML models classified specimens based on metabolic changes with high accuracy and precision. Specific metabolite patterns between different treatment phases were identified.

The Association between Serum Serine and Glycine and Related-Metabolites with Pancreatic Cancer in a Prospective Cohort Study

Hung N. Luu et al.

Summary: This study found that elevated levels of serine and glycine in serum can significantly reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer, and this protective effect can last for more than 10 years prior to cancer diagnosis.

Lipid Alterations in Glioma: A Systematic Review

Khairunnisa Abdul Rashid et al.

Summary: In this systematic review, lipid alterations in glioma were investigated. These alterations play significant roles in glioma development and impact various aspects of glioma cells, such as growth, drug resistance, patient survival, and metastasis. Different lipids have different biological roles, either beneficial or detrimental to the glioma. Lipid signals were also found to be higher in high-grade glioma compared to low-grade glioma.

1-Methylnicotinamide is an immune regulatory metabolite in human ovarian cancer

Marisa K. Kilgour et al.

Summary: Immune regulatory metabolites in the tumor microenvironment, such as 1-methylnicotinamide (MNA), play a key role in modulating T cell responses. Despite the elevated levels of MNA in T cells infiltrating tumors, the enzyme catalyzing MNA transfer is restricted to fibroblasts and tumor cells. Functionally, MNA induces T cells to secrete tumor-promoting cytokines, suggesting it as a potential immunotherapy target for human cancer treatment.

Accuracy and uniformity of the nomenclature of biogenic amines and polyamines in metabolomics studies: A preliminary study

Omer Akyol et al.

Summary: Metabolomics is a new area in biochemistry that focuses on investigating small biomolecules and their interactions, emphasizing the importance of accurate chemical nomenclature. Biogenic amines, formed during normal metabolic processes, are nitrogenous compounds of low molecular weight. The incorrect classification of molecules, particularly in metabolomics studies, may have adverse effects on science education.

Y Prospective analysis of circulating metabolites and endometrial cancer risk

Laure Dossus et al.

Summary: The study suggests that glycine, serine, SM C18:0, and free carnitine levels may represent specific pathways linked to endometrial cancer development. Further analysis shows that SM C18:0 and free carnitine are positively associated with endometrial cancer risk, while glycine and serine are inversely associated with endometrial cancer risk.

MetaboAnalyst 5.0: narrowing the gap between raw spectra and functional insights

Zhiqiang Pang et al.

Summary: MetaboAnalyst version 5.0 has been introduced to facilitate comprehensive metabolomics data analysis and interpretation, with the aim of narrowing the gap from raw data to functional insights. Three new modules have been developed to assist in this goal, along with various other new functions and improvements in interface, graphics, and codebase. Users can now easily switch between compatible modules for a streamlined data analysis experience.
