Association of Right Ventricular Functional Parameters With Adverse Cardiopulmonary Outcomes: A Meta-analysis

Alex Ali Sayour et al.

Summary: The study aimed to confirm that three-dimensional echocardiography-derived right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF) is better associated with adverse cardiopulmonary outcomes than conventional echocardiographic parameters. A meta-analysis of studies was performed, which showed that a reduction in RVEF is more strongly associated with adverse outcomes compared to other right ventricular functional indices. This suggests that RVEF can help refine risk stratification in patients with cardiopulmonary diseases.

RIGHT VENTRICULAR DYSFUNCTION IN SEPSIS: AN UPDATED NARRATIVE REVIEW

Mridul Bansal et al.

Summary: Sepsis is a significant public health challenge, with high morbidity and mortality. It affects the cardiovascular system, including the reversible dysfunction of one or both ventricles. There is limited research on the impact of right ventricle dysfunction and its biomarkers in sepsis.

Right ventricular failure: Current strategies and future development

Maria Monteagudo-Vela et al.

Summary: Right heart failure is a clinical syndrome resulting from right ventricular dysfunction, characterized by signs and symptoms of heart failure. It can be caused by pressure overload, volume overload, or a decrease in contractility. Diagnosis is based on clinical assessment, echocardiographic, laboratory, and hemodynamic parameters, as well as clinical risk assessment. Treatment options include medical management, mechanical assist devices, and transplantation. Attention should be given to special circumstances like left ventricular assist device implantation. New therapies, both pharmacological and device centered, are being developed for the future. Immediate diagnosis, management, and a protocolized approach to weaning are important for successfully managing right ventricular failure.

Summary: Neuroimaging combined with neurological examination is invaluable in the ICU for assessing and ongoing monitoring of brain injuries.
