Efficient separation of arsenic species of oxyanion As (III) and As (V) by using effective polymer inclusion membranes (PIM)

Harshith Govindappa et al.

Summary: This study successfully extracted highly carcinogenic arsenite (As(III)) and arsenate (As(V)) ions from water through the fabrication of a high-performance polymer inclusion membrane (PIM) by adjusting the compositions of the base polymer, carrier, and plasticizer. This research fills the gap in the separation of elements with different oxidation states.

Effects of Fe(II) on As(III) oxidation in Fe(II)-As(III) co-oxidation: Limiting and driving roles

Xin Zhang et al.

Summary: The limiting and driving roles of Fe(II) in As(III) oxidation were systematically studied in this research. It was found that the oxidation efficiency of As(III) increased with the increase of Fe/As molar ratio, but decreased with the increase of pH and air flow rate. Fe(II) oxidation rate increased with the increase of pH and air flow rate, and the ROS generated by Fenton-like reaction of Fe(II) promoted As(III) oxidation.

Highly efficient removal of arsenic (III/V) from groundwater using nZVI functionalized cellulose nanocrystals fabricated via a bioinspired strategy

Fei Chai et al.

Summary: In this study, nZVI was successfully anchored onto mussel-inspired polydopamine-coated cellulose nanocrystals to form CNCs-PDA-nZVI. CNCs-PDA-nZVI exhibited higher arsenic adsorption capacity and superior arsenic removal efficiency compared to pristine cellulose nanocrystals. The arsenic removal mechanisms of CNCs-PDA-nZVI involved adsorption-oxidation, coprecipitation, and inner-sphere complexation.

Kinetics and mechanism of arsenic removal using sulfide-modified nanoscale zerovalent iron

Payel Singh et al.

Summary: Sulphur modified nano zerovalent iron (S?nZVI) has shown high efficiency in removing inorganic arsenic from water, especially under acidic conditions. The addition of FeS on the surface of nZVI can significantly alter the sequestration mechanism of arsenic, leading to enhanced removal efficiency in contaminated water.

Advances in metal(loid) oxyanion removal by zerovalent iron: Kinetics, pathways, and mechanisms

Xiao Wang et al.

Summary: Metal(loid) oxyanions in groundwater, surface water, and wastewater can have harmful effects due to their high toxicity and lack of degradation. Zerovalent iron (ZVI) has been widely studied for the removal of these contaminants, with mechanisms including redox reactions, adsorption, precipitation, and coprecipitation. The corrosion of ZVI leads to the formation of iron oxyhydrides that sequester metal(loid) oxyanions, contributing to their removal from different types of water sources.

Summary: The study found that under anoxic conditions, As(III) is primarily removed through the formation of As4S4, while under oxic conditions, adsorption onto iron (oxyhydr)oxides is the dominant mechanism of As(III) removal.
