Atomic Structural Origin of the High Methanol Selectivity over In2O3-Metal Interfaces: Metal-Support Interactions and the Formation of a InOX Overlayer in Ru/In2O3 Catalysts during CO2 Hydrogenation

Ning Rui et al.

Summary: The use of an indium oxide (In2O3)-based catalyst in the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol shows high selectivity and catalytic activity, significantly increasing the methanol yield. The dynamic nature of the RuO2/In2O3 catalyst structure under CO2 hydrogenation conditions leads to the formation of RuOx-In2O3-x interfacial sites, which promote selective methanol synthesis.

Strong Metal-Support Interaction Boosts Activity, Selectivity, and Stability in Electrosynthesis of H2O2

Junming Zhang et al.

Summary: Noble metals play a crucial role in electrochemical reactions, but their usage is limited due to high overpotential and poor stability. By modulating strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) through mechanical milling, the overall performance of Pd electrocatalysts has been improved in terms of activity, selectivity, and stability. This approach can also be extended to other noble metal systems, showing great promise for the large-scale production of highly stable and tunable electrocatalysts.

Summary: Cation-and anion-substituted hydroxyapatites (sHAPs) supported gold catalysts exhibit strong metal support interaction (SMSI) under oxidative atmosphere, enhancing the cationic properties of gold and increasing catalytic activity. Controlling the degree of SMSI allows for tuning the electronic state of metal nanoparticles and providing highly active and durable catalysts for target reactions.

Facile synthesis of multi-layered nanostructured Ni/CeO2 catalyst plus in-situ pre-treatment for efficient dry reforming of methane

Rufan Zhou et al.

Summary: A multi-layered nanostructured Ni/CeO2 catalyst was synthesized and its catalytic activity was improved through pre-treatment. The catalyst showed stable conversions of CO2 and CH4 and a high H2/CO ratio, which can be attributed to the multi-layered structure, enhanced metal-support interface, and formation of carbon and oxygen species on the catalyst surface.

Producing ultrastable Ni-ZrO2 nanoshell catalysts for dry reforming of methane by flame synthesis and Ni exsolution

Shuo Liu et al.

Summary: This study reports a new catalyst synthesis method for producing stable and efficient hollow Ni-Zr oxide nanoshells as a DRM catalyst using flame aerosol synthesis and exsolution. The incorporation of immiscible elements into single-phase hollow nanoshells and the formation of oxygen vacancies in ZrO2 contribute to the catalyst's stability and activity during the DRM process.

Ultra-durable Ni-Ir/MgAl2O4 catalysts for dry reforming of methane enabled by dynamic balance between carbon deposition and elimination

Haocheng Li et al.

Summary: Carbon deposition is a major issue in catalyst deactivation for methane dry reforming. This study proposes an equilibrium theory that balances carbon deposition and elimination, leading to the development of highly dispersed Ni-Ir/MgAl2O4 alloy catalysts. By optimizing the Ni/Ir atomic ratio, high activity and long-term stability (600 hours) with zero carbon deposition were achieved for methane dry reforming at industrially relevant temperatures (650 degrees C).

In Situ Strong Metal-Support Interaction (SMSI) Affects Catalytic Alcohol Conversion

Felipe Polo-Garzon et al.

Summary: The study reveals that during the catalytic conversion of 2-propanol on Pd/TiO2 at low temperatures, coverage of Pd sites occurs due to the generation of SMSIs. The SMSIs that appear during the reaction fully reverse upon exposure to O-2 at room temperature, which may have contributed to the challenge of identifying them in the past.

Oxidative Strong Metal-Support Interactions between Metals and Inert Boron Nitride

Tongyuan Song et al.

Summary: The study reports the oxidative strong metalsupport interaction (O-SMSI) effect between Pt nanoparticles and inert hexagonal boron nitride sheets, where the oxidized boron overlayer derived from the boron nitride support enhances CO oxidation reaction by working synergistically with surface Pt sites. This effect is also observed in other h-BN-supported metal catalysts and is determined by metal-boron interaction and the oxygen affinity of metals in different oxidative atmospheres.
