Knowledge Enhanced Neural Networks for Point Cloud Semantic Segmentation

Eleonora Grilli et al.

Summary: Deep learning approaches have become state-of-the-art in domains such as pattern recognition and computer vision, but they require a large amount of training data, which is often a challenge in geospatial and remote sensing fields. Neuro-Symbolic Integration field provides a possible solution by incorporating background knowledge into the neural network's learning pipeline, with one method being KENN (Knowledge Enhanced Neural Networks). Empirical results demonstrate that using KENN for point cloud semantic segmentation tasks improves the performance of the original network and achieves state-of-the-art levels of accuracy.

Machine Learning and Deep Learning for the Built Heritage Analysis: Laser Scanning and UAV-Based Surveying Applications on a Complex Spatial Grid Structure

Dario Billi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a methodological approach for improving the interpretation and building information modeling from laser scanning and photogrammetric data. The research focuses on the surveying of grid structures in the late 19th-20th-21st centuries, relying on artificial intelligence for classification and automated masking. The case study highlights critical issues in terms of data accuracy, complexity, and component recognition in space grid structures.

Segmentation of large-scale masonry arch bridge point clouds with a synthetic simulator and the BridgeNet neural network

Yixiong Jing et al.

Summary: This study proposes a deep learning-based method called BridgeNet for the segmentation of bridge geometry, which can automatically extract key geometric parameters. By training on a synthetic dataset, BridgeNet achieves good performance on real point clouds and provides assistance for the assessment and inspection of bridges.
