A methodology to assess the evolution of mechanical performance of UHPC as affected by autogenous healing under sustained loadings and aggressive exposure conditions

Marco Davolio et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance evolution of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) under sustained loading and aggressive environmental exposure. Different mixes of UHPC were examined with micro and nano-scale components to promote self-healing. The results confirmed UHPC's durability, especially in the cracked state, through its ability to seal cracks and restore original properties in short periods of time, making it an ideal material for durable and sustainable structural applications in aggressive scenarios.

Cellulose nanofibers to improve the mechanical and durability performance of self-healing Ultra-High Performance Concretes exposed to aggressive waters

Estefania Cuenca et al.

Summary: This paper studies the effects of including cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) in Ultra High Performance Concretes (UHPCs) on the recovery of both durability and mechanical properties due to self-healing behavior. Tests on flexural strength, crack-opening behavior, water permeability, chloride diffusion, and microstructural analysis were conducted. The presence of CNFs significantly improved the self-healing performance of UHPCs, with higher crack sealing rates observed and total sealing of cracks only observed in specimens with CNFs.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of stimulated autogenous self-healing on the performance recovery of UHPC under impact loadings. Experimental results show that specimens healed continuously under submerged conditions exhibit the highest healing efficiency, with complete closure of surface cracks and over 80% recovery in natural frequency. After four months of healing, there is a significant increase in stiffness and energy dissipation capacity.

Simplified analytical model to assess key factors influenced by fiber alignment and their effect on tensile performance of UHPC

Le Teng et al.

Summary: Increasing the single-fiber pullout strength usually enhances the tensile strength and toughness of UHPC. However, an increase in fiber orientation angle leads to a reduction in tensile strength due to a decrease in fiber number and embedment length. Experimental and analytical models were used to assess the key factors influencing the tensile properties of UHPC, and a simplified model was proposed to evaluate the effect of each factor on tensile strength.
